How many people got burned on 48-in-1 or 60-in-1 conversions?

I'm talking about older machines converted to 48-in-1 or 60-in-1...and selling for $3000+!!

I'm seeing these turn up on Craigslist fairly often. It's not like there was no internet then; didn't anyone do research before laying down that kind of money?

Remember, not everybody has the ability to go out and buy a $130 board, install it around an open monitor and hook up any addition power/controls needed. Like a plumber, anyone can do plumbing if you know HOW, but if you don't, it's worth the money to have a professional do it for you (and plumbers are EXPENSIVE!!).

Hell, think about it, your asking professionals here why our work is worth so much.... :D

I do agree in that I wouldn't pay that much, but I like to work on them and I would surely sell one for that if I had a buyer. (hell I sold a cigarette lighter on EBAY for $3,750, it had no value to me, but apparently others valued it enough to pay me that much!)

Wow, a cigarette lighter for a used Toyota. Sounds good to me! That must have been a collectors Zippo or something.

Yup - I'm totally okay with paying reasonable amounts for the labor of putting everything together.

But I saw a 48-in-1 listed, and the owner claimed he paid $3800 for it. It was a Ms. Pac-Man CT, painted black. Ouch.

I'm sure your work is great, but it ain't worth that much for that kind of machine! :D

I'd have no problem throwing down $1200 for a good 60-in-1 game, though (as a point of reference).

I agree with the overpricing of multi-cade cabs.

I think it's a rip-off to pay over $1000 for a 48-in-1 inside an old converted dig dug cab. But, hey, if people will pay that price, sweet. It only makes a classic cab like mine look more authentic to the uneducated.

$3000? Shit I'd be happy to get $700 for mine.

Anybody who can't take the time to check prices before dropping $3K+ on something deserves what they get....

There are people that are willing to spend lots of good money for nice looking multi-games. They would rather spend the money and get a lot of games rather than get just one. I am not one of these and neither are most people on here. I have built and sold a few multi's. They were also very nice. They were classic cabinets that had been coverted and painted over. We stripped them completely, sanded down and repainted. They got painted black and had whatever side art was available put on them. They also had matching "Multigame CPO's, marquees and monitor bezels. They ended up looking pretty professional. If you put a lot of money into parts and do a lot of time consuming work, charging $2000 can be very reasonable. As mentioned, when you pick up any random piece of just and throw and adaptor and board in there and charge a ton of money, its just stupid laziness.

I must be doing something wrong...
I put this one ( http://syracuse.craigslist.org/vgm/1561144846.html )
up 2 weeks ago, and I've only had one reply, and 750 was too much for them :(

Cab was beat and abandoned before anyone gives me crap about it ;)

I just think it's sad people pay $3000 for a cheesy multi-cade, And you could buy better games for just $200-$300!

Being the cheap guy I am. I would still rather spend $3000 on a single dedicated machine than a hacked up multi arcade game. I see nothing really special about them. except for parts.

Speaking of spending big wads of money....

did you buy that Star Wars or not?

I have sold 3. I put about $300 and at least 10 hours into each cab.

48-1: $650.00, 15 months ago.

18-1: $450, 9 months ago.

60-1: $400, 1 month ago.

It was a Dunhill aquarium table lighter picked out of a pile of goodwill stuff my parents were sending off... We had no idea, but it was pretty... LOL (Like a fist sized zippo) Checked on Ebay and they were going for $1,500 so I was like "dang, sell!!!", then ours went for $3,750... Buyer said something about tropical marine scene was unusual which is why it went so high. OK... so if I have a ratty cab and someone values it more than I do, then I would sell at what they would be willing to pay.

My trick is I gold plate everything, it would have been a bargain at that price!! :D

kidding... yea I agree, way too much. I feel bad making too much on anyone, moron or not. Heck Shardian just bought a cab from me and offered a little more than I ended up taking. We both made out, I got more than I paid, and he got a good flip project going.
