I had a lead for a complete 25" Dynamo cab without a PCB, a Nintendo cab without a monitor, and two crane machines. The guy needed to clear out his storage so he was selling them bulk for cheap and he was willing to deliver to my place 40 mins away.

Unfortunately, when he got to his storage facility, they had dumped all his stuff outside. For those of you who don't know, it's been raining like crazy here in the SF Bay Area the past couple of weeks. I guess that's what you get for not paying 2 months rent. He had owned a anime/import toy store where he had these games running.

Nothing could have avoided this other than the guy paying his rent for the storage space, but then again, he wouldn't have sold his games if he had. It just really sucked. This has been maybe my first real deal that has failed miserably. Oh well, you win some and you lose some.

Do these kind of things happen to you guys often?

Working at a repair shop, I sometimes get free cabs if my boss doesn't want them. In the past couple weeks, we've had three different people call saying they had a game we could have, and would even bring them by "in the next day or two" that my boss said I could have, and none showed up. None of these have popped up for sale locally either. Hopefully they may show up someday...

Yeah, it wasn't like a huge haul or anything, but it was cheap and it would have been nice to finally get my SF2 Dynamo cab. All the other stuff was just extra that I could either sell or use for something else. I never said it was a rare deal. Haha. Just a deal.

But yes, I am shaking my head and moving on to whatever deals present themselves.

I think that out of all the chances I have has to get games, probably 6 or 7 have fallen through. Then again, 4 have worked out fine.

out of every 10 cabs someone inquires about, i get and order for 1.

hadnt heard of a storage unit doing that. Around here they slap a second lock on it, and about every 3-6 months auction off the contents of the unpaid units. They unlock the doors as they come to them, bidders have the opportunity to look in and see what they can (but not enter) and bid on the contents in thier entirety. I know several auction haouses that just go around buying storage units and reselling the items in thier auctions

I think it depends on who runs the place. I had a friend who worked at a storage facility and he said sometimes they just have a service haul everything to a junk yard because they don't want to bother sorting through it.

I'm guessing he told them he'd come pick up his stuff and they took the liberty of leaving it outside. I have no idea.

if i had come by and saw my games sitting out and ruined like that, i would just set them on fire and leave it for them to clean up. what a crock!

Really? That sucks. I had a friend's husband who worked at a storage place for years and years. When someone did not pay, they put their own lock on the unit so they couldn't come remove their stuff and bail. Then they sent notice after notice to pay up past due rent and months and months later eventually auctioned off the contents to recoop their losses. I always thought they did it this way because it was the law. I guess not... :(

I gues a deal is not a deal until money changes hands.

I had a "deal" with a lady that was moving. He struck up a conversation and I agreed to pick-up a Space Invaders and a foosball table. I told her I would need to check with my Brother-in-Law to see when he would be able to help me. I was to call the following morning. I did that and the lady said the games were already sold and picked up. I was upset at first, but then deals show up every now and then.

I had a deal to buy a dead Blaster game in a Duramold cabinet for $100. This was 3 hours away from my house. I told the guy I was on my way and to expect me at a certain time. I was on the road for an hour, when the guy called me back and said he was doing "research" on the internet and there was no way he was going to sell this game for $100 now. He said he can't sell it at this time until he figures out how much higher of a price he is going to be selling it for. I had to turn around and go home. I was out 2 hours of my life and $15 in gas. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper. The morals of some people are completely mind-numbing.

To make matters worse, I post about this on these forums and some lovely KLOV'er messaged me asking me for the guys contact information, because he has been looking for a Blaster for a while now. WOW.

I apologize for this thread everyone. This is just depressing and discouraging all at the same time. :(

I was just pissed last night and decided to vent. I wish all of you the best at finding the smoothest of deals.

Like Taylor said: Shake your head and move on.

It's all good. It's like a bad egg in a dozen. My good deals and trades far outweight a deal gone bad. Goes with the territory I suppose.

I'm pretty sure the guy lied to you. Either he didn't have the money to pay for back storage, or got a better offer. you should check with the storage company to see if they are auctioning off the contents of his unit. I think in California the storage company has to auction off the contents of storage units in default. The bidder is not allowed to inspect the contents of the unit and has 48 hrs to remove the contents, even if it means to throw everything away.

No, he picked the machines up and still brought them to me to look at. Like I said, they were mainly particle board so you know what happens when you mix water with them. I took a couple of parts and a monitor and paid him for his troubles. He was a nice guy. Just lost his business and got screwed over.
