just curious how many layers of paint you're applying when repainting a cab. i'm currently restoring my WoW and have rolled on two layers of white primer plus two layers of paint on top of that. looks pretty thick now, but would you go for one or two more rounds of paint?

let me know what your approach is ...

That ought to be enough then - it's pretty tough stuff...

If you make it too thick, especially all at once, it may chip more easily.

I ususally go with one coat of primer and 2 coats of paint unless I'm covering something dark with something light, then it goes to 2 coats of primer and 2 or 3 coats of paint.

I did exactly what you did on your WoW to my jamma cab; with oil based paint...

and once you're finished with the color, do you paint your cabinet with a clear coat to protect the color underneath?

I didn't clear coat mine, it seems the oil based black I used is pretty tough and very shiny anyway...but I suppose it couldn't hurt. Maybe the next game I restore I will try the clear coat. I'm new at fixing this stuff up, but mine turned out pretty good. I'll post pics in the restoration forum in a week or 2.

Did you guys roll on the paint? Or Spray it on?

I think the guys that sprayed it on have gotten the best results. I don't have a sprayer, so I rolled it on, then followed up lightly with a brush. Turned out pretty good for a novice like me. Here's a pic of my horizontal jamma cab. Not finished with it yet overall, but done with the paint. The black shows all of the small dents I missed with wood putty, yet it hides all the flaws in the right light. Good thing the right light is in my arcade...

the flash of the camera makes it look like the paint is streaked a little bit, but its not. Not a very good pic
