I am just curious who all has knowingly overpaid for a game? Debating on a game I have wanted for a while. Its currently overpriced more then what I would normally pay and not sure I would ever get my money back on it. But then again, its a game I dont plan on selling once I get it.

'overpaying' is relative to the buyer. You may think it's over priced but could be right in line. When a person from KLOV says 'it's more than I would normally pay for a game...' I just assume the game must be above the $150 mark and in working condition.

I've gotten some great deals on games over the years, and have also overpaid on a couple. Didn't matter though, because I had the money, wanted it, and now they are in my collection until I die. I never think about whether or not I'll get my money back if its a game I plan on keeping till the end.

Well, this game is lot more then that (its actually a pinball). I've been increasing what I am willing to pay more recently to get better quality games (like my silent scope and Elvira pin)

I would overpay for particular games. For example I would pay $1000 for a nice Burgertime.

I have over paid several times. Once when I first got into this hobby and one other time on a game I had been looking for many years local.

I definitely overpaid for my 720. It wasn't working, and I had to ship it, heh.

I definitely overpayed when I started out, but I was young single and shipping wasn't as bad as now. I definitely overpaid on my Galaga, Centipede, and Tempest CT, but they were also in really good shape. I laugh now when I think what I paid for those.

I overpaid on my first game too. $500 for a Galaga with no artwork and a hacked wiring harness. I thought I was getting it cheap too. Part of the adventure of the hobby.

I think overall you break even on games as you buy some cheap and some not so cheap.

so far i have been pretty lucky and have not ovepaid even by the klov cheap bastard rating of 250$ for anything
but im looking at a pin now thats a little overpriced and i really want it

+1000!

I have gotten great deals on games, I have over-paid for games, and I have paid average for games. To me, it all balances out. I buy the games I like and I buy them for keeps. I have yet to sell or trade a game. I love them all.

The closest I've come to overpaying...

$150.00 for a semi-working Pole Position project I ended up selling for $75.00

$350.00 for a semi-working Donkey Kong Jr (needed cap-kit and some serious cleaning/tmolding/etc)

$300.00 + a 25" Primal Rage machine with bad monitor for a non-working Star Wars upright that needed hundreds of dollars more to get going.

I think that's about it... nothing serious at all really.

I know I overpaid for my Timber. However it is a grail and will never leave the collection so to me it dosen't matter the cost. I probably would have paid even more than I did.

The one I bought has been the only one that I have seen come up for sale up here in the NW.

We're not all rich bastards like amr, but for the most part if it's a game that you really want, in perfect condition and you have the cash, then go for it. Like others have said you will overpay on some, and get good deals on others so it's a wash in the end.

I definitely would not base your purchase decision on whether you will get your money back, because you most likely won't. I see these games just declining in value over the years unless it is a super rare and desirable game like Computer Space, dedicated Major Havoc, etc...

Hmmm...my pacman cocktail kind of qualifies. I got it for free as a homicide victim - it was stripped and violated with a sawz-all.
I offset costs and bought parts cheap for 2 years. Just the other day I roughly added up my costs - just over $400 for hardware/art! This does not include any original pcbs or monitor - it is getting a pc and has a freebie pc monitor that is not included in the cost. Once I button up a few loose ends though, it will look really, really nice. Taking that into consideration, it is still a pretty good deal. Way more than I ever anticipated spending though.

I'm gonna talk to the guy and see how it goes. It will probably be my last pin (at least for a couple years). We just had a baby 2 weeks ago so priorities have changed. I would probably sell a couple games to offset the cost even though I have the cash. Its probably overpriced by a couple hundred.

Oh .... I straight up paid WAY too much for my red DK. I bought it from a woman that lived out in the middle of no where and it was sitting under a carport. Everything was rusted, the cabinet was beat to shit and every piece of artwork was crap. The monitor needed a COMPLETE over haul. The coin mechs were jammed with pennies and nickels lol.
She was a single mom with 4 kids and working a lame ass job. The cabinet at best was worth $100. She was asking $500. Guess what? I didn;t even try to drop her in price. I paid the $500 and walked away with a project from hell and a sense of being a good person.

If you include shipping I overpaid for our Moon Patrol cocktail, but it was the one game my wife had talked about enjoying while younger.

I could have bought a cheaper one, within driving distance, but the seller was unscrupulous (shill bidding his auction on ebay, etc.) so I went with the one I had to ship in from Texas.

I'm not planning on selling it though, so I don't regret what I paid for it.
