How many games in your opinion would one have to own to have a true arcade? I was thinking 10, but again my opinion.

I'd say 4. That way you could have 2 opposing walls with 2 games each and create a walk space between them. I have a small room off my main gameroom that currently houses 7 games, and it feels more like an arcade than my larger, main game room which housed 15 at one time.

i say to have a true arcade then minimum is 25. anything below that i'd say is just a gameroom. and yes there is a difference between the 2. you don't have an arcade in your basement/garage/whatever room in your house.... you have a gameroom.

I beg to differ.

I hope it's not 10 because I only have 6 games. I would agree with Phet. If you can form some walkway or corner of games, I think that could be considered an arcade.

Though I looked up the definition being the nerd I am:
-noun: an establishment, public area, etc., containing games of a mechanical and electronic type, as pinball and video games, that can be played by a customer for a fee.

Based on this, I guess a lot of us technically don't have an arcade since we don't charge a fee. If one disregards the fee part, then I would say anyone with 2 or more games has an arcade since "games" is plural in the definition.

These days 1 game. Who F--- knows what a arcade is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( I am not talking about the people who are on this forum, just general public) Arcade= XBOX 360 now.

I don't agree with this but it seems to be the truth for the most part. People see a stand up arcade machine of any type and you would think the saw the first stone wheel.

Ahhh but the definition says (Can be played by a customer for a fee) It does not say they MUST pay LOL

Look at it from a different angle - what makes it FEEL like an arcade? I never considered my pitiful excuse for a gameroom/garcade/whatever to be an arcade, until I finally had all the games up and running, and shut off the lights with everything lit up. I was thrown back in time for a minute.

I think I have 12 games...I don't remember now :)

I don't know even BITD when I went to a pizza joint that had a room just for games I never considered it to be an arcade. Just a game room. TO me an arcade was either a business just dedicated to arcade games or in some cases like the mini golf, water slide arcade combos I would still consider them to have an arcade due to the number of games and the fact that the games are almost always housed in a separate building than the other activities. I own lots of games but still don't really think of what I have as an arcade. I guess where I draw the line is having a separate building for the games. In my eyes Luna City would qualify as an arcade. Although technically an arcade is a business so in that sense almost none of us have an arcade.

You're right! Then, we can agree we all own an "arcade." ;)

And I thrice disagree with the statement than anything less than 25 is a gameroom. How do you even determine the number 25? It's just random.

But who cares, it's a technicality. Call wherever you put your games whatever the hell you want: arcade, gameroom, place, fun center, etc.

Aw man!! I wasn't trying to start a shit storm. I was just sitting around thinking and was wondering what peoples thoughts were. Sorry

Lol it seems shit storms are thrived upon here, no biggie :) My answer was just trying to be funny/sarcastic, I guess I shoulda put a smiley on it.

4 was the number I was thinking too before launching this thread.

Just not one with the winky on it or you would have pissed off Phet (he doesn't like those for whatever reason)

Woo-hoo! I guess this means I'm in the small and elite group of arcade owners then (leaving out the part about being a business)! I like this reasoning! :p

Does phet like the tongue smilie?

Separate building here too... though my "gameroom" bows down to the awesomeness that is LunaCity Arcade...

But call it what you want... I like what someone said earlier about it "feeling" like an arcade... if you can walk into a home arcade and have it feel like you're right back in 1983, then by all means, you have yourself an arcade.

Agreed...your words are poetry in motion......

Wow just had this conversation with my wife, I am going to say two like I told her.

I had one game and it was just one game all by it lonesome, but then I added a second next to it, my wife was sitting in a chair next to them and I told her "Who gave you permission to sit in my arcade?"

;)
