I am looking to get a few black lights to illuminate the BL carpet for the game room.

Looking for suggestions on how many BL lights (18" or other recommendations) to use for a good effect.

I found these with cool green casings - http://www.spencersonline.com/product/18in-green-black-light-fixture/

Not a bad price either with buy one get 25% off the second and only $4.99 shipping for the lot.

Ideas?

i don't honestly know, but i found with my gameroom that blacklight positioning is key too. i have one near my pac, and the marquee is bright enough that it drowns out the blacklight somewhat. so i have a second one on the other side of the gameroom to hit all the other stuff.

Joe, that pricing sucks... (sorry) But those are cool looking, for sure.

Walmart. $9.99 for a 24" light. No shipping, local stores carry them.

I have 4 of them in my 10x11 room and it lights it up like crazy. ;) Cheapest solution I found.

I was looking at the 48" to hang in the archway too. $29 +$10 shipping....
Walmart? Really?

Yup. Every store I've been to has at least 4 of these $10 wonders on the shelf. The only downside is that they don't come with a protective clear case for the bulb, but since they usually go on the ceiling, noit a huge deal.

I can't even find bulbs for these for that cheap. 24" bulbs are usually like $12 or more.

Hopefully you're not a WM hater. A lot of people are, but dang. Best price on BL fluorescents I could find anywhere...

Just a fair warning (i worked for spencers for over 5 years), there blacklights are over priced, and that UV reactive green one you linked yes it's cool but very cheaply made. I'm pretty sure wally-world or a large home store (lowes, home depot ect.) will have a far better price on bulbs and fixtures.

I don't recall where yours were in the game room....must be a great job if I didn't even pay attention to it!

I am trying to figure out how to maximize the best coverage for the game room. Price is not as much a factor as quality is...

Home Depot may be an option too.

So far, it's been 4 24" lights for a 10x11' room. Is this too much, not enough?

All I'm going to say is... Go down to a WM and grab 1 or 2. Test them. Check distance from carpet. put them closer together, farther apart,, until you get the brightness you want. Then space them that far apart, and figure out how many you need.

I swear, I should be making a commission off of these things.

It's not difficult. If you end up going with 48" 2-bulb systems, you will easily spend 4X the amount of money, and it adds up really fast. (But does look better, and use less cords, I will admit that)

My way is the quick/cheap/easy. No shipping, low price to see if it works, easy return to WM if you change your mind.

I had them located kinda centered in the ceiling (over spots where the carpeting appeared between the games) The LED rope lighting more than likely drew all of your attention away from them.

I wish I knew how to calculate sq. foot per light, or whatnot. But mine is very well-lit for only $40 total... I would guesstimate you would need 8-12 of them to light your space... Just placing them above carpet, not above games.

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed....:D

If you haven't guessed by now, I want someone to do the work for me...not figure it out on my own. This is a KLOV trait. Live with it.

Heading on down to a Walmart. Lovely.

I have a 12X22 room. I haven't installed my carpet yet, as it just arrived yesterday, but I bought 4 of the Walmart BL's.I put them more in the middle of the room, about 3 feet apart from eachother. I'm hoping it looks good.

i bought the walmart ones, but the bulbs were actually pretty crappy (lit up the room purple) compared to the others i already had (not much visible light, and have maximum blacklight effect) , so i ended up changing out all the bulbs with new phillips tubes, and now they look good. All in all, would have been better off just buying generic 48 inch fixtures, with seperate bulbs.

Which bulbs did you end up buying and from where?
