How long to repair PCB

I've got one that has been out for 5 years....

I guess it depends on who you sent it to and what their history is with previous repairs.

A good few weeks to a month or two, I'd say, a lot of factors here... (and this better not be another thread created just to bash on Mark...)...

But, what board is it? Some boards are much easier to work on than others. If it's a Pac board, should be fairly quick - if it's something complicated, like Star Trek, then expect it to be longer.

Did you send it to a company that specializes in repairing boards, or did you just send it to someone that works on boards in their spare time?

What's wrong with the board? If it's an Omega Race or a Baby Pac board with tons of battery damage, then expect a fairly long turnaround time.

In any event, this is really a question you should ask the person that is repairing/will be repairing your board...

If you sent a PCB out for repair how long would think it should take for turn around?

Uh oh somone has an alterior motive.
Let me guess - you sent your boards off to a KLOV member and they are taking forever, little to no communication and the turn around time they quoted is well over now right? Am I close?

Usually its' this situation or a KLOV member low balls the hell out of you and tries making excuses as to why you should sell something for less because they did at one time. Bah -

Damn your close not a KLOVer but a reputable repair service that I along with others have used. The problem is that I don't want to discredit a decent guy but the excuse is LAME and I don't like being treated like a moron.

Red Baron.

To be fair to the person doing the work, the board has made it back to me on several occasions but still exhibits a problem. Also, the average player may never see or experience the problem as you have to be pretty darn good to get far enough in the game to run into it. Red Barons are not well known as "easy to repair" either...

I typically turn around pac boards in 2-3 days and if someone needs one faster I have plenty ready to go on the shelf.
A month or more in inexcusable unless it was discussed ahead of time. In any case you should ask how long it will take.

Repair person should give a range of return time and stick to it. Things happen though, and this isn't a full time job for most of us. That is where communication comes into play. I would have no problem if time ran over because of personal issues or trouble fixing the board...as long as I'm kept up to date.

When time goes well over and communication is non-existent, that is when I get pissed.

It took eldorado a year and a half to send my demo derby board back and honestly i can't tell you if it actually works or they just got tired of hearing from me and they just sent it back. Spaeth has had a tempest board of mine for about 16 months and i'm wondering if i'll get that one back too.

Someone had a Tempest CT of mine for 3-1/2 years and my CT asteroids for 3 years. Neither worked when I got them back. The Tempest needed the chassis transistors, but I made the mistake of taking the Asteroids PCB back and waited another 8 months. The guy told me it was working, and Elektron Forge told me that was impossible because there were rev1 and rev2 ROMs mixed together. BTW Elektron Forge fixed my board within a week.

I know the main question is how could I have waited that long. Well I technically have three jobs that keep me extremely busy. This guy had a way of disappearing. In fact I had to track him down through his realtor when he tried to move. This is the guy I warn people about when he sells games on ebay or Cleveland CL.

So a better question is who do you send boards to that does a good job and has reasonable turn around time. I have an omega race I'm picking up tomorrow with minor battery damage so if I can't get it running it would be nice to know there are some good places to go for help..:D

all im going to say is good luck with that one ;)

ha.. ask mudmantim or supergunguru (I think) :) about it..

but thats their own business... I'm just being funny...

I sent some PP boards to Dick Milliken.. told him to fix whenever.. put me to the bottom of the list if someone else is in a hurry..

and he was still dang fast... and great about it..

Just sent him my DK and DKjr boards.. and swear it was less than 2 weeks and they are on the way back now... :) Find one good guy and stick with them. And they are my own boards...not even an exchanged..

I've sent boards to RJ at Arcadecomponents.com (Channelmaniac here) and have received lighting fast turn around. No more than a couple weeks. He kept in constant communication and the repair cost was less than expected. Hearing the other horror stories you guys have posted, I'll definitely be sticking with RJ for more PCB repairs.

Hmm may need to see how you make out with this, as I just got a board for mine that will probably need some TLC :D
