How long is too long for a chassis repair?

Sent Wells chassis out for repair and it has been 46 days now and was quoted about 2 weeks. I already did capkit and flyback on it, but it remained in shutdown.

Wells Gardner 25K7191 chassis. Not going to say who, but one of the top recommended repairers.
I just wanted to get this monitor going so I could get this game out of here. I was willing to pay for the service, parts & shipping both ways because I figured it would be less of a headache for me.

A K7xxx chassis should be 2 weeks, tops. I'm a hack of a repairman, and even I carry a spare one of those on the shelf.

Were you quoted 5 weeks repair time up front?

IF it's a member here, then I'd say one final PM is in order - give them 24 hours to respond with an update, or you're outing them on the forums.

Quoting 2 weeks and then taking THAT kind of time is much too long without communication. Unacceptable.

I'm not saying they aren't communicating. Last update was about 2 weeks ago that said they were still fighting with it.
I'll try and get another update.
I was just getting concerned with it being this long.

If they've honestly been working on it and been in communication, then I say sh!t happens. If they haven't even started on it and haven't said anything, then I'd be a little antsy. That being said, unless he's waiting for parts, I don't understand what the wait is?

Just out the person doing the repair. By having accurate feedback/reports, future customers will have more knowledge when choosing a repair tech.

By 'top recommended repairers' do you mean someone who does this professionally, or is it someone who does his as a hobby for other forum members?

If the repair person does this for a living, it's time for the lip service to end. Quoting 2 weeks and then taking 3 times that is not cool. At the very least they should have swapped out your chassis for a replacement if they couldn't fix it in 2 weeks. If they didn't have a replacement available on one of the most widely available 25" chassis on the market, well, then they're not as great a tech as they claim to be. As I mentioned: I'm a hack and even I have one ready on the bench, and at least 1 more in the field that I could pull for a paying repair customer.

46 days doesn't add up. Someone dropped the ball here.

Um...yeah. I'm not gonna sh*t where I lay, so I'll just say this:

Send a quick PM asking for a replacement chassis. I'm positive that is an option, given the person you've selected for the repair.

Bummer on the delay. It sucks when things take longer than you want them to.

that is just nut's for this to be happening.

yea for a std res K7000 that is just nuts. even for one that has mutiple problems doesn't take that long.

a med res K7000 or haunted 7400 can drive a person insane.

as long as i have a fly in stock my K7000 repairs typically take a day or two.
and if they take longer than expected i would have swapped out the chassis or sent yours back to you free of charge.

that sucks get your chassis back and if it is not fixed i could take a look at it for you.

good luck on your repair and getting your property back.

Peace
Buffett

Ask for it back if you think it's taking to long..

Dude doesnt owe you a replacement. But if he offers you one, that's cool.

he should ship it back on his dime if it's past the two week quote.. That's it.

It's me. I was asked how long it would take, and I said normally about 2 weeks. I don't offer guarantees, but I can usually meet my estimates.

Of course, if it was a normal broken K7000 it would have been done in that time. But this is one of the bastards. Am I supposed to replace it with a completely rebuilt one for the $50 + parts + shipping and end up with a junk chassis on the shelf?

I've temporarily (maybe permanently) stopped taking in new work because I now have 18 chassis waiting for repair. And with the crap of my real job cutting into my free time, I'm not getting the monitor repair time at home as much as before.

That being said, I'm not going to make excuses. If anyone is unhappy with how long it's taking, they are free to request their chassis back. I answer PM's, and almost everyone tells me they're in no hurry whatsoever.

It'll get fixed, it'll work, it'll be cheaper than most repair guys. If you'd rather have someone else do it, let me know before I start changing out IC's and diodes to find which is testing good but working bad...

Don't permanently stop taking in new work, you're a great repair option.

It's not that I can't do it, or that I'm not willing, but the demand has increased greatly and my free time has gone to shit.

Today I've been stuck in Dallas again (same guy) waiting to load up and go back to Austin. Should be loaded within the hour, but I've been waiting since 10. So, what should have had me back by 3 and given me some time tonight to finish this repair has turned into a return about 11pm and no time for anything.

Not to mention I get no time for my own games. So - I'm thinking of stopping for a good while once I get all of these caught up...

Hey Mod,

If you want to come up to Dallas and bring that chassis, you can try out that Vu-Data Component Tester (think "cheaper Huntron Tracker") I picked up in Kansas City off CL. It should make short work of finding a wonky semiconductor that isn't fully shorted.

I was just wondering how long was too long. I didn't want to call out Mod because I know he does good work. I wasn't in a real hurry, but I think ample time has passed. I would like it repaired and will continue to wait, but hopefully not too much longer.

One positive thing is, I'm glad it wasn't just me trying to figure out the issue with this damn thing. Ha ha ha

I'm in Dallas right now - well Irving - but I didn't bring the chassis along because I was hoping to be back home by now...
