How long can you let your favorite game stay broken?

On Halloween night I looked over and my Star Wars was black but would play blind. I opened up the back and got it working by moving a bad connector. Yesterday, I replaced the pins in the connector and the header pins. It was the first thing I did when I got home last night.

Does stuff like this bother you guys as much as it does me?

Yes, but I can't always get them fixed as quickly as I'd like. Sometimes it's money, sometimes time, but usually, it's waiting. Waiting on repair guys, waiting on parts suppliers, waiting on parts, etc. My Tempest was unplayable for a year after I sunk $500+ into it, my Sea Wolf was down for 2-3 months, my Satan's Hollow was down for 6 weeks, etc. Right now, it's my Burgertime and Space Wars giving me issues.

it all depends on my time... if i've got the time i'll work on it immediately. if i don't (like now) it might be weeks before i can get it fixed.

Not having my Elevator Action mini working is driving me nuts. BUT I'm a novice when it comes to monitors, I've determined that I suck at soldering and, even if I did have the skills, I don't have the time to work on my machines for even a half hour a week anymore. *frown*

So, I'll be hiring someone to fix it. Just need time to make the phone call and schedule. (Good luck with that, pookdolie.)

My Dig Dug has had a shot joystick for a month now. Finally ran out to get some new connectors and fixed it yesterday. So glad I did, I had forgotten how much fun it was!

I finally got my Aztec playable, although not fully fixed, this week. Only took about 7 years to find time to work on it.

Same for me. A few years ago, my Dig Dug's Big Blue cap farted out. I had that replaced and back running in about 3 weeks. (cap from Bob Roberts.) Around the same time, my Ms. Pac's G07 blew its flyback. Got that from Bob Roberts and had it going in a few weeks. I couldn't have Ms. Pac down for that long, so I borrowed, the monitor from the Raiden until I could get hers going again. Earlier this year I bought my Megatouch Maxx 2K. I paid $450 (yeah, probably too much). It worked fine for about 3 or 4 months then the motherboard took a dump. Having already dumped that much money, I dumped $200 more buying a nonworking unit with a good PCB and spent several hours banging my head on it, but I got it working. The two PCBs had different I/O boards with different I/O wiring that could not be swapped so I had to adapt my cabinet to the replacement board. It was a major pain in the ass but I did get it going. I kind of had to, its the only game the wife plays.

As long as there's something else to play, there's no big rush.

I did get my Crazy Climber back up in a week or so.
I've had a Galaxian, Rampage, and Battlezone down for over a year..

Guess I'm not a cookie cutter KLOV member, I have 8 arcades in my Laundromat, after over a year, yesterday I finally got a coindoor assembly UPS so I can repair a Raystorm that got broken into. For some reason I recently got the "I can fix electronics" bug. Fixed my Rai Den last week. The monitor would turn pink and roll vert, found a bad connection where the p/s wiring went to the pcb. ALL the wires were butt connected by the lazy ass who sold it to me. Soldered all the connections, fired it up all good. Looked at my dead Zero Gunner last night, similar problem to the Rai Den, shuts down and the monitor freaks out after a minute. Found 5.08 v at the P/S, did some more checks, cranked up the p/s to 5.8 and problem solved, but no volume, suspect the sound board...now I'll probably get my ass kicked...

Bout 1 year. But as a general rule of thumb, I try not to let my grasp exceed my reach. In other words, I try not to get more games than I can keep running at a time, or more projects than I can handle. Of course I threw that out the window when two pins came up for sale cheap recently so now, I have Star Wars, Tempest, Frankenstein, and Freddy... down needing repairs. With the exception of Freddy, most just needs 100 bucks of work. And hopefully, Star Wars will be back on its feet tomorrow. As for Freddy, its more like 350.

my favorite game has been down since cax. Tried a few things but so far no success. Even rewired the cab and got a tested working board set. At this point I just think it hates me

I bought a Gauntlet Legends that played blind. Put a cap kit in it, no luck, put in new fly back, no luck, bought another chassis for parts and replaced other parts, no luck. I took the monitor and the chassis to a local repair shop, they had the game for 3 months, got it partially work but with monitor problems. They suggested another tube, to expensive, I found a working chassis that was newer and I then had to modify the Molex connection for the monitor to make it work. I was determined to get the game working and I finally got working after over 4 months. Don't give up just keep trying.....

What game?

I rebuilt an empty Baby Pac got it all the way done, except intermittant video issues, every bump of the cab caused an issue and I cant find the problem, even repinned the harness....so... put it in storage in May, getting to it after christmas again, you sometimes have to put them away and start fresh... now getting my Lunar Lander, Battlezone, Red Baron and DK up and running, Im dangerously close on all restorations .... then the bby pac... I hate that thing...
