How good are you? (spare part in the bottom of a BattleZone)

Started cleaning out my BattleZone this morning... after a good picking (there were screws all overt the bottom of the cabinet) and a good vacuuming... found a 2N3792 in the bottom of the cabinet... problem is, can't figure out where it's coming from... I've check the monitor, the boards, etc etc... I just don't see anything missing.

I'm working on printing out the manuals right now and I'll be scanning through them in the morning...

But thought it'd be a fun little thing (and helpful for me) to see if anyone could pull the rabbit out of the hat, so to speak, and blurt out where this little feller came from. The pins appear fairly clean, but there is some heatsink paste on the back of it...

I forgot how much fun hide and seek is with these things, I haven't worked on a good new project in months... digging through old cabinets is like Christmas (a dusty, horrible horrible Christmas).

That's one of the deflection transistors from the monitor... most likely it's dead, and rather than throwing it away when replaced, they tossed it in the bottom of the cab. I tend to find a lot of dead deflection transistors in the bottom of vector cabs.

Yeah, I think I found the one that got replaced... it's a 19V2000, with the transistors lined up with the 3 along the bottom and the single up top... it's the one that's furthest to the right. It was replaced with an RCA 2N3716... ... I don't trust that (should I?). Thanks for the help.

After cleaning off a little more dust... this thing has the burns on it, not sure if I should try a rebuild or send the thing off for repair (which scares the hell out of me). ARII's cooked, chassis for the monitor is cooked... ... finally, a decent project. ... Minus the ARII... I don't trust them, AT ALL... I'll keep it for the audio, but I'm not letting that thing put "5V" (more like 7+ in past experiences) anywhere near this boardset.

I don't know locations off hand, but the 2N3792 is different from the 2N3716, but they're both used on the 19V2000. You should have two of each installed... if you have 3 of one and 1 of the other, then I'd say it's wrong, otherwise it's probably fine.

You should check out the B/W vector FAQ for specifics.

Thanks, I'll have to print that out too... I have 2 2N5876's on there and no 2N3792's. So... no telling what's going on here or what they were thinking... I wonder how much damage as been done.

Actually, 2N5876 crosses with 2N3792, so it probably originally came w/ the 2N3792, then they replaced both w/ the 2N5876s. So, the one in the bottom may actually be good, left there as a spare when only one of the originals died, but they replaced both.
