I have a monitor that needs washing throughout the entire thing and needs more than dusting, anyone know how I may go about this?
Thanks.

the dish washer on the delicate setting, your sink, the garden hose, your air compressor.

wash with some simple green or equivalent if needed
all of those methods are used and work fine.

let it dry good before reinstallation.

The monitor tube has a scent to it so a wipe will not be enough, unfortunately.

Thank you for the warning of the aquadag, how can I avoid removing it? Is a hose wash followed by Simple Green (maybe) enough to remove it?

Don't worry about the aqua dag unless the monitor is B&W. Just discharge it and spray it down then spray it with simple green use a paint brush then rinse. If you want pull the chassis before so you can clean that better.

Make sure it is dry before powering it back on. An afternoon on The front seat of a hot car in the summer works great, or put a big blower on it for a good long time.

Thanks, Tighe. You're so resourceful. ;)
I will do just that. Once the cabinet is all repaired ad the monitor is clean I will post about my latest cab... :)

Hint: Not Pac-Man!

I use 409 Simple Green irritates my nose and throat.

I wash chassis in the sink.. Wipe down tube and frame with wet towels.. To nervious to use garden hose like others do...

I always wash PCB's in the kitchen sink. I would be comfortable using the hose, but I find the sink far more convenient. I then lean the board up against a wall so that the water runs off the board, do not dry the board horizontally.

Unfortunately this monitor has some unpleasant substance no one would like in their sink.
Hose it is tomorrow. :)

I've dishwasher'd, sink'd and hose'd a bunch of monitors. They all come out just fine (some methods are less work then others). The thing you need to be careful about is making sure they are DRY before you power them back up.

Last one I did I was able to let it sit in the sacramento sun for a few hours.... Best looking (aside from new) k4900 I ever saw!

Thank you, you have all bee very helpful.
Do you disassemble the monitor or simply wash it whole after discharging it?

it all depends on how dirty it is on which way i do it, or if i am lazy and only want the top coat of dirt off.

but you need to take it all apart to dry any way.

so wash the tube in the driveway and the chassis in the sink with a soft long bristled paint brush and some mild soap.

A soft paintbrush would be alright for the tube. You certainly wouldn't use a hard brush like you'd use to polish your shoes.

I still think washing the tube is a terrible idea, you don't want to get any water inside it. 1-2 minutes wiping it down should be sufficient.
