I just got a Donkey Kong without the black paper monitor bezel. I am going to make a new one and wondered how they attach. Do they just sit on top of the monitor or do they tape down some how?

I swear by the black curved plastic bezels. They look so awesome and very clean. Smalltownguy2 can concur... twisted quarter has them...27.50$ shipped. I have done 4 nintendo cabs and will not use a cardboard bezel anymore...
Just get yourself some black construction paper from your local hobbyshop, cut it and call it good.Thread Necromancer here -
Are these curved plastic bezels still available anywhere ? Are they still recommended over the paper ? Does anyone have pics of both side by side comparisons ?
The link is understandably not working anymore - I got a DKjr with no monitor bezel at all. So this is why I ask. I am either getting the paper ones or will try this suggestion in the thread.
Any leads appreciated - thanks !
Yea I for sure was thinking this too. I just didn't know some were using the curved plastic bezels (which I like better anyway), and if they really were I wanted to see pics, and now of course 10 years later - wanted a lead on where they would be now. lolJust get yourself some black construction paper from your local hobbyshop, cut it and call it good.
Well, hell I'll thank you now ! haha.Use small Velcro strips - you will thank me later![]()
Radarscope, DK, DK Jr, DK3, and Popeye all had paper shrouds from the factory. With the tinted plexi you aren't going to see it anyway so why make it harder on yourself than necessary. Thanks for the replies and advice/help guys !

They just float - kind of flop off to each side. It all becomes invisible when the tinted bezel is on, back door is closed and lights are off. Thanks for the replies and advice/help guys !

So I imagine that's if I use the cardboard correct ? I am currently having to clean off some old dried up double sided tape from the edges of the face of the monitor ! Which is what I imagine you mean by me thanking you later. Cause that sucks. lol But I do not see anywhere where the outer edges of the cardboard would rest on or fasten to. Do they just float ? Or am I missing some side support wood/flange ?
It's amazing how enthusiastic new guys can make the simplest of things seem so damned complicated. It's literally construction paper cut out and taped to your monitor face. Then there's also a paper mullet that hangs down behind this shroud to block the light from the back. I'm sure the threads on these pieces are older, but they're out there.
Most definitely, just was asking if this was indeed a "thing". Ideally, when I work, I like the one hitter quitter style. Do it right once so I don't keep fiddling with it. So, I was just asking in a general sense if the "secret way" that is the best is to upgrade from the cardboard to the plastic.. Also longevity is a big thing for me, which was another part that was making me question it all. But sounds like just sticking to the cardboard is the way to go ! Awesome ! Yep, all making sense now. But I had to ask. Also I have a Michaels close by ! Thanks for the linkif it's done right in a Nintendo cabinet, you don't see the bezel at all once the game is lit up (paper or plastic)
like others have said it doesn't seem worth the effort to source and carve up a plastic bezel that was never intended for a Nintendo game. the once or twice i've encountered a faded Nintendo bezel, i've just hit it with a bit of black matte spraypaint and it's dark again and ready to disappear once the game is on

Needed to know this. Thanks. Makes me feel better. Not missing any parts, lol - Damn Nintendo though, this seems so ghetto. To me, just seems like it (cardboard especially) would arc and warp over time with no outer side support. It would be simple (all of 5 seconds) to add something though. Something easily removable, but perfectly positioned on each side to "catch" the edges and give them something to rest on. Might try it, I'll send pics once done. They just float - kind of flop off to each side. It all becomes invisible when the tinted bezel is on, back door is closed and lights are off.
You know this is very true as well. I'm a debate that to myself, but either way, get the job done and that's the main point.Spend your time enjoying the game and just buy one from Mikesarcade.com
You end up wasting time and gas running around making your own then just spending the $30 on their site. Combine orders if you have to justify shipping.
Yea, this does sound better. Again, after all this great helpful advice, I am glad to know/hear all these simple options and I'll be deciding form of attack. All of it is extremely simple, so that's good. Also if you want something more rigid:
Just go to Michaels or Joann Fabrics and go back to the framing department.
Honestly you could go to any frame shop.
You can have them use the matte cutter to make you a flat black matte that you can put over the monitor.
It will be a lot stiffer than the original which is just basically a thin sheet of black tagboard.
But it does look very nice and is more sturdy and less prone to tearing.
Ohhhh, great find and link ! thanks ! I agree, this is perfect. Maybe even better than the velcro. And also... awesome your working on one now ! Damn that original cardboard does warp quite a bit. Heat, time and simple cheap cardboard will do that. lol I think I'm a remedy that. Lets see. Awake this thread in another 10 years haha.. I'll put mine to the test.
Not making it complicated, just asking simple questions to a simple task. I'm not even too enthusiastic about it. lol Its honestly even on the back/side burner for me as I got like 5 other projects ahead - I just like to measure twice, cut once and plan ahead. Might as well ask even the simple stuff right, as I value the people's opinions here.. And yea, for sure, I'm a make (or buy) the back piece too, which I was always gonna do with cardboard btw. Thanks for the heads up though. And yea there were threads, I found this one and I woke it up !It's amazing how enthusiastic new guys can make the simplest of things seem so damned complicated.
