How do you test a stargate sound board the correct way?

I have no sound on my stargate. When I turn on the machine I can here to little cracks from the speaker and then nothing.

The sounds were working fine except a lil issue with the thrust and now I have nothing no sound at all.

So whats the best way to start testing this?

Press the button on the Sound Board. If you don't hear any sounds, you might have an issue with the Sound board, or maybe the power supply.

If you don't get any sounds after pressing the button on the Sound Board, start by checking the voltages to the board. There are several test points (and they should be labeled) on the board that you can start with.

I bought a full set of tested and working boards from a member here. I also had decent sound except for the thrust sticking when I first fired her up.

The sound just went out on me while I was at work yesterday. It worked fine when I left for work except the thrust issue and had no sound when I made it home so idk...

I have pressed the button on the board while the machine is on and I have nothing.

I will look for the test points in the scat that you mention.

I know that reflowing the solder on the header pins of the CPU (and power board) is pretty much a must but not sure about the sound board.

Pull it and give it a once over to see if it suffers from cracked/cold solder joints. I reflowed the header pins on all the boards on my Stargate mini when I first got it and it fixed a slew of problems it was having.

I have looked thru the Stargate_Drawing_Set_(16P-3002-103)_Dec_1981.pdf on page 12 and 13 for test points like you spoke of. I do not see anything but then again I am not sure what it should say either to understand the values.

Look at page 14... it shows the test points (under the 2 big caps) and what voltages should be there.

I'd pull 10P1 (power for the sound board) and test at the molex connector. Then plug it back in and test at the test points. If there is a big difference/loss then I would reflow the solder at 10P1.

Mike do you mean 10J1?
What setting should the DM be set to?

Thanks man

I found 10P1 it is the same spot only 10P1 Is the connector on the wire harness 10J1 Is the connector on the board.

No shit...

TP1 +12v
TP2 -12v
TP3 GND
TP4 +5v

Now what setting should the meter be on before I fry somthing?

DMM should be set to 20v DC...

Put the black lead on the ground TP and the red goes to the other TPs.

Same with the molex connector.

Test voltages and report back.

lol... ty dave

Ok 3 sets of readings

#1
TP1 11.21
TP2 -4.42
TP4 5.02

#2
TP1 11.24
TP2 -4.42
TP4 5.02

#3
TP1 11.26
TP2 -4.42
TP4 5.02

10P1

Three wires Yellow black and red.

Black & Red 12.24
Black & Yellow -4.99

Looking at the schematics (pg 12) you should have +12v, -12v and +5v at the 10P1 connector... Also, those colors are off compared to the schematics.

He has a switcher installed, so there will be no -12vdc.

My vote is bad switcher, not putting out enough power.

Based on this Mike am I missing a wire with this switcher setup? I am not sure how to get three readings from that connector....

Thanks for your help Mike/guys... I know this is just a dog shit stargate atm but its getting me thru my addiction / the hard times - while I rebuild Sg#1 from the ground up.

I would love to get the sound working again...
