How do you "stay off the tank trails" in Tron?

I've read about this over and over: stay off the trails / stay off the white lines in the tank stages, and the tanks don't shoot. How are you supposed to maneuver your own tank off the white lines?

(I did figure out the "hiding in the warp spot so the tanks don't shoot" trick, though.)

That IS the staying off the white lines trick. You are not on the same line as any other tank within sight. You can do this around any corner, but it's safest in the warp area because they won't come at you from the inside. And in the later stages it's easier to get gangbanged and rammed while you're hiding in that spot.

I did figure out the "hiding in the warp spot so the tanks don't shoot" trick, though.

go to the center of the screen where the warp box is. start to go in from the top and go halfway down prior to warping. (it will take some up/down quick adjusting to get out of the firing line. turn your turret and start blasting tanks before they slam into you.

What you are asking about is basically what you are doing here. Every pathway has a line down the center of it. If there is a tank coming down a particular path towards you, you can move your tank so it does not touch the line in that particular pathway. You must do this before the tank shoots a shot though. If you are not touching that center line the tank will not shoot at you but you can shoot at it. Of course if the tank shoots at you before you move off the center line you will likely be hit by the shot. You will always be touching one or more of these center lines in different pathways. So this is not really a safe place just a technique to keep tanks coming from a certain direction from shooting at you. You are still vulnerable to approaching tanks from directions where you are still touching the center line. make sense?

How can you fire that fast? I dont think my game allows that quick of a fire button.

you can. you've just gotta get lightning fast on the trigger. i've had times when my hand and thumb hurt like hell from shooting that fast.

I think it helps to adjust the leaf switch on the trigger and to experiment with the best positioning. It makes a huge difference on how quickly the trigger returns and how deep it travels before actuating the switch.

Get the dialed in and you'll be able to fire much faster.
