I have a question for everyone, how do you shrink your heat shrink tubing?
I have always used a lighter to shrink them as usually i am doing only a few at a time, but have seen some videos lately where people have used a Hot Air Rework station.
The one that one video recommended is the 858D+ Unit. Like this one on Ebay

For $60.00 shipped to your door it looks like a great deal and would probably be more handy then just a hand held hot air gun, and if you ever do any SMD work, you have it already.
Curious what others thought and what you are using.
Thanks
Ken

Either my soldering iron or a long "fireplace" lighter.

Thanks for the answers everyone! I for some reason figured i was doing it wrong using a lighter, and thought maybe a heat gun was a better way. Good to know the for the most part people use a lighter or other flame source. :)

I thought using a lighter was a big no no.

At least that's what they say on the packaging.

I'm not gonna drag out the heat gun and heat it up then have to find a place to put until it cools down again when a lighter is instant satisfaction. If I was doing a huge job then it would be worth it but most cases lighter is easiest.

I use a cigarette lighter and I usually get those for free. I'd usually find one ever other time I went out and rode around town on my bicycle. Not sure why so many people lose their lighters, but there do seem to be a lot of them in the street.

I am finding it interesting that people are using flames to shrink them, I do not feel so bad now doing that for so long. LOL I was thinking people would be recommending the hot air guns or some other kind of unit for doing it.
Glad I wasn't wrong in doing it. Of course watch the flame or burned rubber will happen. LOL ;)

if you use fire/flame proof heat shrink, the flame doesn't make it catch fire :)

i use a butane torch, i also use flame resistant heat shrink, not the cheap stuff.
