I just got done watching one of the always enjoyable blkdog7 videos, this time it was Jungle King. In the video he pronounced Taito like potato "tato". That got me thinking cause I always thought it was Tie eat O.

So what are some Arcade related words that people say incorrectly and what is the correct way?

Here are some that come to mind:

Galaga....I say Gal a ga (lower case a meaning "ah" not "A" as in Ape)

KLOV...I like saying K L O V cause it is an abbreviation and not a Radio Station "K LOV"

Oh well, I used to wonder about a bunch of others but I can't remember what they were.

I just pronounce it st uff. "St" like the beginning of "stereo" and "uff" like "rough."

:D

I say Taito like potato "tato".but I have also heardTie eat O. Based on spelling even if I were leaning toward the latter, I would think it would be Tie Toe not Tie eat O.

Thai Toe is how I say it, have I been wrong all these years?

Also:
Gal uh guh
K. L. O. V.

I`ve only heard gal a ga. There`s a town in south jersey mal a ga .

I`ve always said tato but back in the 80`s the wwf tag team champs were "Mr. Fuji & Mr Saito" sie ito....

Not sure if these are correct, merely the way I say them....

Qix = Kicks
Mr. Do = Mister Doo (as opposed to Mister Doh)
Taito = Tayto
Koei = Ko Eee
Galaga = Gah Lah Gah

... I'll see if I can think of more ...

this is funny because I always hear people say some things differently than I do (and have heard others say)

I typically say:

Gal u gu (like the beginning of "guzzle".. like beers)

Jam u (like the u in "up")

KLOV (I say KLOV like klavh or basically make the "o" sound like the first "o" would sound in "opportunity"

Taito (I also say like potato)

But who knows I say stuff wrong all the time, just ask my wife

FWIW, on modern (~1992>) games with the Taito logo splash screen they pronounce it "Tie Toe."

I prefer the American way of saying it...TAYTO! And I will continue using the long form of Nintendo as well. :)

The Japanese pronunciation of Taito is: Tah eee touh

I find myself saying K-L-O-V or 'klov'

It drives me nuts when I hear Gah lay ga for Galaga

Yeah but W.K.R.P. in Cincinnati was W. K. R. P. not W-Crap. :D

Nope. It was W-Carp.

:D

Taito was/is a Japanese company, so the correct pronunciation would be Tie-eat'-o (emphasis on 2nd syllable). I say Tay'-to because I like the way it sounds.

KLOV: I say Klauve because I like one syllable over four (K-L-O-V) and K-Love sounds stupid to me.

Galaga: I say Gal'-a-ga (emphasis on 1st syllable). It wasn't until recently that I've ever heard this game's name pronounced Ga-la'-ga, with the emphasis on the second syllable.

Centuri: Recently I've heard people pronounce this as "Century" (cen'-chur-ee). I've always said Cen-tur'-ee (emphasis 2nd syllable) and used to hear it pronounced that way back in the day as well. Don't know which is correct.

I say Taito like Tai-tO or like Tie-Toe.
I say Galaga like Gal-uh-guh
I think we've been through this before with KLOV. It's sounds like KL-Ahhh-v.

Definately:
pot-ay-toe (potato)
o tay-toe (taito)
o gal-uh-guh (galaga)
o K-L-O-V (KLOV)
o kwix (qix)
o tom-ah-toe (tomato)
pack man (pacman)
cen chu ree (centuri)
will yums (williams)
got leeb (gottlieb)
ba-lee (bally)

:crazy:

I've seen a lot of threads like this. Here is the truth. Are you ready?

KLOV = Clove
Galaga = Gal-uh-gah
Qix = kicks
Centuri = Sen-chur-ee (Just like you would say "century.")
Taito = Tay-toh (This is America!)
