How do you Order from Hobbyroms.com? Do I tell them I need 2 sets Decoder Roms for Defender, 2 sets Decoder Roms for Stargate Defender, and 4 Stargate Sound ROMS and they'll burn and have the ROM files already? Or do I have to mail them my ROMs which I don't want to do?

I just figured out my bad Stargate Sound Board has a bad ROM by putting my good Rom from a good board in it, and now it works fine...

"steph" runs that site and is an active member here on the forums. I'd just PM him (or use the email address posted on his website) and tell him exactly what you need. I imagine he'd have the files already.

Hehehe...just kidding!

I really don't know more then that he has been a terrific help to me in many projects of mine and his prices are very reasonable. He has a very quick turnaround and is always willing to help.

Peace
Jeff

Does steph do this business as a main source of income or is it a side hobby / source of income?

Oh wow... a whole thread about me !!!

So here goes...

1- Hobbyroms is just that... a "hobby"...
I started about 8 years ago, firstly doing stuff for local collectors needing eproms,
then I created a small website about 6 years ago...

It's still a "hobby" but now takes up most of my evenings
answering e-mails and doing research on questions people ask.

I actually only spend about 10-15% of my time programming eproms;
the rest is e-mails, newsgroups and correspondence.

I'm certainly not getting rich with this, but it does help to pay
for a few vid parts to keep my small games room running.

2- I do have a full-time job.
(which is why I usually answer e-mails before 8:00am, and after 7:00pm ! )
I work in IT; Network Infra-structure and LAN/WAN design for large national networks.

3- I was indeed laid off last year (...I worked at Nortel Networks),
but was quite lucky to find work after "only" 7 months of unemployment.
[ Many of my colleagues are still looking for work, more than a full year later... ]

4- And for those who still don't know, I'm in Canada, eh....
I try to ship as fast as possible, but between Canada Post, USPS, and Customs,
it usually takes 7+ days to ship to the US.

Big thanks to many of the KLOV'ers who speak kindly of me
and refer me to their friends.

Cheers,
Steph

Like many in this hobby, Steph treats his "hobby" in a thoroughly professional manner. I have ordered ROMs from him several times and have never been disppointed. I grumble about the delay between the mail systems but I understand it (I still have relatives in Canada so I always leave plenty of time when mailing to them). For the things that my eprom burner won't handle, he is the best source I have found.

Btw, Steph the decoder ROMs were up in my mailbox yesterday. I'm not sure when they arrived as I didn't check it for a few days. Thanks again.

Steph was very professional in my dealings with him. He had a huge issue with customs returning packages back to him about the time I ordered from him so my package was delayed a few days. The entire time he was in communication with me and even offered a discount on my next purchase. Unfortunately, I haven't had the extra funds to pick up the next set of roms I'd like to get but when the time comes I look forward to giving him more of my business.

I dont think its ever taken more than 5 days to get an order from you. I cant say the same about stuff coming from California.
