How do you get that textured paint look……

i like to use a dusting of hammered metal then satin black
That is the quickest easiest.
It's not so much that the texture is wrong but that hammered crap leaves a brownish color .
You can get close with powder coat if your PC guy has that texture. ( mine has many close variants)
Otherwise I know a painter that can match it exactly by adjusting the spray on his gun . But I gotta do in large batches.

I assume this door pictured you are happy with?

Because that looks fantastic.
Definitely happy with this one. Not sure if I should leave it the way it is or put a coat of satin black over it? The first coat I did satin black and then used gloss black for the splatter. Just not sure if I try to put a coat of satin black over the splatter if it will ruin it.

The satin over all of it will lessen how visible the splatter is. I like the way yours looks because it resembles the classic style the best, but if you're trying to reproduce what was in your first pic in the thread, a coat of satin might get you closer.

See my post here on how I do it.

I can't emphasize enough you need to practice this on scrap metal or cardboard. You have to get the feel of it.

Second attempt at the other door. So close.

But on the bright side, once this dries I can put a layer of satin black on it and see how it's going to look. This way I'll know whether or not to do that to the good one.

Ended up putting a coat of satin black over the messed up paint job to see how it looks. Doesn't look too bad I think. It definitely doesn't stand out like it does with the glossy splatter.

I had to zoom in to even find it

I'd say you call it good right there. Looks really good.

I did the exact same thing today on a Williams lower door! I tried a heavy spatter coat yesterday (using the same Rustoleum Satin as I had used for the base coat) and while it gave the texture it really stood out to me with the level of sheen on the splats. This morning I dusted it again with Satin and I have to say I think it looks spot on.

Here is the lower door compared to the upper door which I did not refinish. The upper door is in very good condition on this cab so I was going to leave it. The texture and sheen match very, very closely.

By the way, this thing helps a TON for doing the spatter coat. Makes it a lot easier to control the nozzle pressure since you're squeezing the handle which is levering down on the spray head.
