How do you deal with spiders (the bug) in the game room

I just did a floor to ceiling cleaning of my game room/basement since i painted a good portion of it, everything was clean now about 4 months later i've got spider webs everywhere. Just finished sweating out all the ice cream i could want for a year vacuuming them up (i was just changing all the ant/sticky traps i put out). (lots of webs not to many spiders)

Now i understand it's dark in my basement but damn there's few/no bugs down there so... "why spiders? why!!?" My basement is ground level/partially underground (raised ranch style) and was built in the 50's/60's I run a dehumidifier 24/7 and keep humidity below 60% at it's peak (average about 53%). I put out sticky traps as mentioned to catch any random bugs that might get in and ant traps just in case (no one wants ants!!!) still the spiders come.

So just wondering what you guys all think of our eight legged friends and how you deal with them. Personally I'd like to keep them out of my game permanently but I know that's not a possibility. They do have a purpose, but honestly they can cause some serious issues with games and they make a mess.

Learn to embrace the spiders! Just do a little "maintenance" every 6 months or so. They are going to be a big part of why you don't have too many or any other bugs in the arcade.

Nearly impossible to keep them out completely b/c very few things that you spray won't work. They have to be sprayed directly in most cases b/c their legs don't pick up the chemicals from what was sprayed.

Careful when you bring new games into the basement. I usually notice lots of spider eggs clinging along the bottoms of cabs, waiting for a nice new home, when I get ready to transport them into my basement

So, so true. I once had a Space Invader with TWO Black widows in the base, and then my Battlezone had this guy:

I spray ALL of my games for bugs, BEFORE I even remove from my truck!

agreed i always brush off the bottoms of my games before removing them from the truck, might as well as how often do you have a game on it's back :D

spiders might not be the root of the problem, they wont be around unless there is food for them.. so something else is getting in there providing food.

Either way, sounds like its spray time....

I just smush em. We just had our roof replaced and there was a crazy amount of spiders and ants that came rushing out (roof rats too!).

We've had the area around our house and under the shingles of the house doused with pro anti bug chems, and we still have spiders! Fact of life around here.

yeah man, never really gave this a thought when shipping games from other states. Now ill definitly check for this... good call

The last game I picked up (joust) had two very large, 8-legged residents and enough eggs to grow an army. It still makes me shudder.

I'm finding a large influx in spiders in my basement around my arcades.... except for Black Widow... they seem to stay clear of that one.

Depends on the spider! If it's a Wolf Spider they won't hurt you. I hate spiders but If it's not poisonous then I try to think of it as roach and cricket control, Because they will eat your wiring! Think of them as little arcade soldiers!!! A Black Widow is dead as fast as I can kill it! The black spider pictured in this thread is very similar to a Wolf spider. Wolf spiders don't bite! They're actually pretty smart. The Brown Recluse is another one to die quick! Highly poisonous! They have a "Fiddle" marking on their back.

Leave 'm on your cabs as a happy ornament !
