I have been asked to reflow the solder on my stargate sound board. I have never reflowed anything before. I do have a a few decent soldering irons.

So do you guys have any tips on how to do a reflow on power connector for a williams sound board. What would I need to get the job done?

All that means is reheat the solder to the melting point. The best way though is to remove the old solder (wick, solder sucker or other means) clean and reapply solder. the only advice I can give is be careful not to make solder bridges and do not use too much heat.

as far as equipment goes:
a 15 watt iron with small chisel tip or similar
Desoldering wick or desoldering iron (depends on preference) [if removing old solder]
and some common electronics solder (medium-small diameter).

I have a pace digital unit. What temp setting do you recommend 600 650 700?

when you solder IC chip pins/legs, only heat as much as it takes to melt the solder. too much heat can damage the chip. 8-10 seconds max. once you get good only 3-4 seconds will be needed to get the job done. radio shack has a cheap aluminum heat sink you can clip on for wicking away the heat from the pins but if you develop "the touch" you wont need it for most jobs.
some remove the old solder, some just add new to the melt. i put a fan nearby so i dont have to breathe much of the vapor.

Yet another reason to use a socket with an IC, next time you will not have to de-solder it to remove it ....... :)
