How do I...

Read through this thread. On editing - not sure if there is a reason to disable it at all? (I'm sure there is).. I tend to add to restoration threads to make them more complete and/or clean them up. I've broken a few links on a thread I have now. So one more who would like to see 'unlimited editing' return once you work through the technical issues. thx.

this has been addressed in a few posts. The amount of time allowed to edit posts has been modified a number of times and it seems set in stone for now.

How do you attach pics in PM's / convos?

In the editor, click the picture icon that says 'Insert Image' (or press Ctrl+P). You can then upload, or insert a link.

(EDIT: My bad. Actually, it looks like you can only hotlink in PM's. Whereas in threads you can upload or hotlink.)

No worries I tried

You just have to revert to the old way of doing it. Upload it to imgur.com, then hotlink it.

I'm also not sure if you can upload to an album here, and then link (as that was also an option before, but not sure now.) Imgur was always easier for me though.

One known issue we are dealing with is some broken images on imported threads for which the image was hosted in an album. I think it will be hopefully easily addressed with some kind of DB search and replace, but there aren't enough hours in the day and we haven't got that far yet.

At some point, we will likely kill linking to offsite image hosting (as has been discussed for a year or two now). When we do, we'll create an easy way for people to save save all their images in posts. It also isn't going to happen until we make some improvements to image handling here in general.

yay! and once that is implemented, i can finally retire klovimg.com ;)

If you do that then what happens to the 100's (1000's?) of threads that link to photos on klovimg?

that's up to @mclemore to handle that... if he blocks external sites, am i supposed to just keep my site running for 30 more years?

No, of course not. You giving us an option for hosting photos is much appreciated I was just surprised to see that you'd instally kill it - and I missed the part of mclemore's comment of killing offsite photo hosting, which would ruin tons of threads just like photobucket and imgur did when they changed.

I am in no means instantly killing anything!

I'm merely responding in kind if this forum disables 3rd party image linking, then what's the point of klovimg.com any further?

Even when and if that happens, i'll probably keep it up for 1-2 years and slowly phase it out.. or not... you never know! :)

Well, this is weird. I just posted that signatures are not being added to messages. When I posted it, my signature was there, so I deleted the reply. But the post I made in another sub-forum, 5 minutes ago, signature is missing. Can you check on what's going on?

Here's the post I just made (see last post on this thread):

What's really weird is that signatures in that thread from my prior posts have been removed too, but I know they were there (the older posts were under the old message board.

Signatures have been modified so they only display on the first post in a thread, to save space (as many people have huge sigs, which I think are the real issue). Greg mentioned it in one of the stickies.

There used to be a convention on the internet about keeping your sig to 4 lines. And like many old internet rules that had very good reasons for existing, it's fallen by the wayside.

How come my signature showed up on the reply I made just before your answer here?

Photobucket is what did it for me. That was the straw the broke the camel's back... as to why offsite photo hosting is on the endangered list.

It's all been discussed before... but here goes again... It isn't the plan to break links. In fact, we are working on some tools to help users migrate.

And Photobucket... we rescued almost 50,000 hijacked photos when they went down with their free hosting product.

Jokes aside, I'm sure there can be some kind of way to mitigate the issues in migrating the photos to the media tab. Perhaps uploading them using a 'bot' account or something.

FWIW, I'd always rather attach pics and keep them part of the archive here, well, for archival purposes. There's nothing worse than going back and finding an old thread with info you need, only to find dead image links.

However I do frequently hotlink memes and other non-essential stuff. Just the fun stuff that isn't important.
