As many of us will be figuring out how the new forum works in the coming days, I'm making this thread for folks to ask questions, and share solutions.

If you're trying to figure out how to do something that the old forum could do (or you know the answer) feel free to post here.

For example, the old 'jump to new post' button in the new posts search results is now the 'X minutes ago' link on the right side of the screen.

In the old forum I would go into a sub section and click "search (just) this forum" This doesn't seem to be an option now. Has anyone found it? Or is going the long way through the search the only way?

Just testing the upload changes. Why not post something sexy?

At least it seems like searching in general has been improved. I'm actually finding things I search for instead of random posts that match nothing in my search query.

Yes. A search for up n down finally yields usable results.

Somebody must have already asked why a poster's locationisn't shown anymore, right? Bit of a PIA on the sale threads and then some.

Previously you used to be able to have a custom search, to see new posts while excluding certain sub-forums. It seems that my old link now just shows all new posts...

So is there a new way to filter the lists of sub-forums you see new posts from?

For example, this is what I used to use:
Code:
http://forums.arcade-museum.com/search.php?do=getnew&exclude=39,74,70,55,14,115,43,12,20,92,38,93,99,123,120,94,109,112,116

Click on Search in the upper right...it defaults to "everywhere", but you can cycle that to "this forum"...
It's the only way I've seen to do it.

i'm assuming you ran a wildcard search excluding certain forums on the old software and just bookmarked the link?

You will have to tinker with the new search url string a bit in order to get the results you want.

head to https://forums.arcade-museum.com/search/?type=post

include the search term you want to use. I'm assuming blank makes this a wildcard search. click on all the forums you want to include add more than one by holding down the ctrl key. order your posts by the most recent. run your search and if those are the kind of results you are looking for, bookmark it.

How do I jump to the new posts in a thread I have read prior? I see the "Jump to New" button on the right hand side, but that doesn't take me to the "new" posts. It just takes me further down the page for some reason...

I'll mess around and see if i can get that to work. Someone else (TheShanMan maybe?) posted this solution on the old version years ago, and I just adapted the exclusion list to suit my needs. I'm not sure how he worked it out originally (from the new post link, or from a search link, etc.)

give it a try first. if you can't get it to work drop me a PM and I'll give you a hand later

Maybe it's just the new system until I click of these "read" threads from before?
