How do I wire buttons on the left and right of a joystick to work for 1p or 2p

I am building a 48 in 1. The cpo has 1 joystick in the middles and 3 buttons on either side. I would like the player to be able to use the right or the left buttons, depending on their preference for each game. I know this won't work with 1942 2 player? Any ideas on how to wire the jamma harness.

Thanks!

If I understand you correctly, you want buttons on either side of the joystick to work.

You would run the player 1 shoot 1 (p1s1),player 2 shoot 2, player 3 shoot 3 to buttons 1, 2, and 3 respectively. Then you would run a wire out of those buttons to the other side of the control panel and feed them into a connector and attach to the opposite but same button (p1s1, etc). Similar to the way you run the ground wires in a loop to all the buttons.

If you are wiring them in quick disconnects make sure you put the extra wire with about 6" or whatever hanging out so you can run it to the other side of hte control panel.

You would run the player 1 shoot 1 (p1s1),player 1 shoot 2, player 1 shoot 3 to button switches 1, 2, and 3 respectively. Then you would run a wire from that lug to the same lug on the button switches on the other side of joystick. Similar to the way you run the ground wires in a loop to all the buttons.

If you are wiring them in quick disconnects make sure you put the extra wire with about 8" or whatever hanging out so you can run it to the other side of the control panel.

fixed it to what you meant to say... ;)

Thanks, I think I understand. However, the Jamma diagram doesn't have a player 3 Shoot 3 wire. I have a 1PS1, 1PS2, 1PS3, and a 2PS1, 2PS2, 2PS3.

Thanks

the 1ps3 is your player 3 shoot. now if you have a harness that doesn't actually physically have that wire in it, you should:
get a better harness
or could:
solder or crimp a wire in there.

You will be completely disregarding the entire 2 player wiring for the most part.
unless:
you are wiring it for a trackball, or installing a 2nd player in your control panel

and except for:
the sync and color wires
player 2 start
grounds
+5's
test
etc.

So, I take the 1ps1 to button 1, 1ps2 to button 2, 1ps3 to button 3. I then run jumpers to the prospective button on the other side. I set the dip switches for upright 1 joystick. Will this still allow 2 players on everything but 1942?

Thanks

Everything but 1943.

Yes, that will work the way you want it. Don't forget to connect grounds to both sides, too...

you missed the hte for the in the last sentence.

I suppose you can't clean up every mess I make. :)

I thought that was some new "netspeak" all the young punks (like Mattroid :D) are spewing nowadays. Fixed it...

I tried this tonight but it isn't working. I ran th 1 player wires to the top slot of the micro switch and the jumpers from the lower level. Do I have to mark of the same slot? The left side buttons work, but not the right side on for both player 1 and player 2.

Thanks!!!

I assume you are using the quick disconnects?

I don't believe you can run the wire into the top and out of the bottom of a microswitch.

What you should be doing is running a wire into a quick disconnect (little pink connector) actually 2 wires into it, crimp them in. One of them is from your jamma harness, the other one is going to the terminal on the other corresponding button. (i.e. s1right side to s1 left side)

I typically put the ground wires on the top prong, and the jamma wire on the 2nd one, though I think they can be interchanged.

You need to have both the jamma wire (p1s1) and an additional wire (8" long) twisted together and crimped into a quick disconnect and the additional wire get's put into a quick disconnect on the other side of the control panel.

hey did you get that hyper sports pcb today?

I did. in fact my son and I just installed it and it works despite the USPS best efforts. I am actually going to post a pic of the box to show folks that your great packing job saved the board, if it wasn't packed right, that board would have been destroyed. I have one question on it, but will send you a pm. Thanks! I will do the wiring as above. I started another thread with the coin door and speaker wire giving me problems on this as well. Other than that the game works good. If you could help on that one it would be great.
