How do I stop buying games and concentrate on fixing the ones I have?

Got so many projects.
I think I finally have enough projects to stop buying any more.
Maybe.
Someone said this hobby was more about having enough space than having enough money.
My pinball machines are feeling jealous lonely and neglected and the arcade vids get all my attention these days. If machines could feel. They definitely have personalities.
I love this hobby and theres some great people in it.

Its easy, delete craigslist from your bookmarks/favorites. Thats what I did, and I havent bough a machine since last September.

Wait.....holy shit....I havent bought a machine since last September! :(

What, your games don't talk to you?

What was that Q*bert? You want me to kill who? Of course, yes. Yes, I'll go put on that dress you like right away.

Burn a game or two laughs that would prevent people from selling you any game. You will have a lot of time on your hands to work on your projects.

Seriously just do a little time management and balance repairs vers buying.. Good luck

Make a list of the things that need to be fixed on your games. You don't have to list everything, just maybe 10-12 items for a hit list.

Keep it laying around and check things off and date it.

You'll wind up with more working games and a little memento.

It's actually very simple........you stop buying......when you absolutely, positively.....have zero space left.;)

Ha! my suggestion is give some stuff away to your buddies in the hobby, finish a project or two and give them away.
you'll be surprised how that cures the hoarding syndrome, in a positive way. :)
plus you'll have a bunch of new friends

You're asking the addicts how to stop being addicts.

You're screwed!

Seriously, it took me years to finally get around to fixing the stuff I have. I have the wife and kids excuse, plus the two hours commuting every day. But, it's a terrible waste of space to keep a game you can't play. You might as well get rid of it if you're not going to fix it. Half of my games were NOT working at one point. I now have 5 games non-working out of 26. I'm getting better. And that number is my MAX. That is the number at which there is enough space in the garcade to comfortably play every game, and I tell myself I HAVE to stay at that number.

But it seems like every week there's a cheap fixer out there to be had. There always seems to be a way to squeeze in one more. There are friends who will let you keep a game at their place. It's always a battle, and never gets easier.

I'm probably amoung the minority, but I try not to buy a new games without having all of my other games working. This way, you limit yourself to one project at a time and have more impetus to get it done.

And do not go on any sales thread or craigslist posting till its done. I've been doing this long enough to know that there are few 'once in a lifetime' moments and good deals come around often enough to not worry that you are missing anything.

Loved reading everybody's answers.
I don't have a wife, so thats probably why I have this problem, but its not that bad a problem to have. Time to just pay utility bills for a while and be responsible and lay off buying games.

Wife Wanted.
Must love and own arcade video games and pinball machines.
Send picture of machines.

I just look at the pictures people post with their completed game rooms <jealous>. Knowing that each project that I buy no matter how cheap or good the deal is - that takes up the space, time and money that prevents me from ever getting to a "finished" game room. I'm going on 15 years of collecting and have never quite gotten to 100% working playable game room yet. I still have tons of crap (PCBs, Art, control panel, parts) that I'll never really use.

Figure out your magic number of games and stick to it. If 1 game comes in, 1 game goes out. In my case lately, it's been 2 games out, 1 nice pinball machine in. :D

edit: I did have a 100% working game room once, about 28 video games all working, sure enough 1 or 2 days later, 2 vector games died <sigh>.
