How do i spot a real playstation 1 memory card?

If it has the Sony logo, its a Sony product. But honestly, I've never heard of any PSX card (officially licensed or not) that doesnt work on any PS2 (slim or original).

Either way, I'm betting your local game store has them much cheaper.

I got one from wal-mart not to long ago
I thought all of the cards worked on any game played in the ps2, didn't think the card could tell the difference

this says it works for both 1 and 2 (your link)

The unit is compatible with PlayStation, PS One, and PlayStation2 consoles

maybe this will help

The "real" ones will say "SONY" on them
Well, there are some knockoffs out there that try to look like official cards. I don't know that this is as big of an issue as it would have been 5 or 6 years ago, though. I've seen some pretty convincing knockoffs, but you can usually tell by Engrish on the packaging or the SONY logo looking slightly "off."

I was under the impression that the OP wanted one to save PS1 game saves using a PS2 system - only PS1 memory cards will save PS1 game saves, and only PS2 memory cards will save PS2 game saves. So while a PS1 memory card will work in a PS2, you can only save PS1 saves on it, not PS2 game saves (and vice versa). That black PS2 memory card linked at Wal-Mart won't save PS1 game saves to it.

I believe there are no name brands who make multipurpose memory cards that allow you to save both formats onto one card, likely using a switch to change formats - that's how many of those "x16" or whatever cards work.

rlemmon, the one in the pic looks real to me, though I don't recall if the packaging for PSone cards was ever that small. If so, that must be the more recent packaging as I haven't really paid attention to the PS1/2 stuff in the last several years.

Im betting a knock off company wouldnt dare attempt to put anything resembling the Sony or PSX logo on their product. Would you want a lawsuit from Sony?

Give me your address and I'll send you one or two.

I've got a couple sitting here that I have absolutely no use for. One may be a 3rd party card, but it should still work anyway.
