I finally got my PONG up and running, time to start doing a little restoration...The paddles are jumpy so I figured I'd take them apart and clean them up...only problem is, I can't for the life of me figure out how to take them off. I have one "Old style" Metal one, and one "New Style" Plastic one. I thought they used Allen/Hex keys, but none fit. So I thought it was a rivet that could be popped out the other side...no luck there either. I've been wondering this since I purchased the machine over a year ago...HELP!

Yes they certainly did use Allen setscrews to hold the knobs on. I believe they were American sized setscrews. Perhaps the heads have been stripped out? Try a metric Allen wrench in there instead.

If I recall, these knobs had TWO Allen head setscrews.

Sometimes the knob can corrode to the shaft. If thats the case, spray a little WD-40 up in there to help loosen the knob from the shaft. This is one of the few times WD-40 is actually useful.

I've tried both Metric and American, none of them seem to fit, it does look like they could be stripped. And yes, they have two. But one the hole is just barely large enough to fit my smallest allen wrench, where as the other is much larger and I can clearly see the set screw in it.

If it isn't stripped...

Note that some sets don't include all of standard sizes of Allen wrenches. Mine didn't, and I had to go buy a better set.

On the small end, look for 1/16" and 0.050" (the best may also include 0.035" and 0.028"). Some cheaper sets also skip some intermediate sizes, such as 5/64, 7/64 or 9/64 IIRC.

You have a Pong and I am Jealous so I will never talk to you. The End :)
