How do I fix my Tron & Ms Pacman machine so it saves the high score(s) & settings

Ok so I purchased a Tron arcade machine and I have replaced the light bulbs and stuff in the machine and thats about all i really know. I noticed it doesn't save the high scores and the game settings like for credit value and difficulty. I was searching on this forum and read some posted but dont really understand them. I dont know if the original Nicad battery is there or not or if it doesn't work. I dont even know what it looks like & where it is located. How would I go about fixingthing I heard you can get a cordless phone battery and do something with that like soldering or something. I really have no experience with soldering or wouldn't know what to solder. Could someone post a tutorial on how to do this with like step by step instructions possibly with pictures & what i should get or buy. im kind of a noob at stuff like this.

Also I would also like to save my high score for my Ms Pacman machine. Is it the same steps as my Trom machine. If not could someone also make a tutorial step by step & possible pictures on how to do this.

Thanks.

Ms Pac does not have a high score save feature. You will need to buy a high score save kit if you want to save your high scores.

inside on the left side (from entering through the back) there is a board which happens to be your power supply board (tron)

It probably has 4 little sets of wires leading into it via molex connector. this power supply board is also how high scores are saved. (and credits too if I remember correctly)

If there is an original battery on there it needs to be cut off yesterday before it corrodes your power board. If there is no battery, at least someone wasn't an idiot (prior owner) and you can get a kit to put on there to save high scores.

scroll down this link to see a picture of the board. and in the lower left hand corner you can see the battery with holder that has been put in for high score save. It's like $5

The battery is still there should I clip it off? cause you said it can corrode. Is there a certain way to clip it off ot just clip the wires as normal? Also yes the prior owners were complete idiots and new nothing about the machine like how to service it. They even though the back key hole had a missing key so i got it even cheaper but I knew the key was inside the door. They said it wasent in any arcade and if thats true it wasn't in good quality for not being in an arcade and they had young kids ugh. The coin mech doest work unless a wire has been disconnected casue there are some clipped wires in there but on metal wire that flips down to count credits is bent , the other is brokin off. They had a pinball guy mod the front door panel and installed a button on the outside so that you can press it and it gives you credits which i dont really like or want.

I heard there is a small nvram chip you can also buy and replace and put on your pcb cause I dont know how to solder real well and I dont want to screw up my machine by shorting it out or something. Could someone tell me the correct chip to buy This is the link in the thread that was given http://www.mouser.com/Search/Refine...d&OriginalKeyword=DS1220&Ntk=Mouser_Wildcards and where I can locate the other chip on the pcb board to take out and replace with the new nvram chip? I would like to do this instead and does that mean as long as the nvram chip doesnt go bad it will always save the high score or is it like a battery where i will have to replace every few years? I was told this works on any mcr games so is Ms Pacman a mcr game? Also what does mcr stand for?

Email the guy above.... He also sells a kit that you do not have to solder the one wire to your board. His name is Slava...

EDIT: Ill PM you his email now...

I don't know which nvram you need or where it goes on the board. What I can tell you is that they are basically a ram chip with a built in battery that lasts many years. Someday you may need to replace it but it should hold your scores and settings for a good amount of time. Like I said, I don't know where this nvram goes on the board. It's possible it's right there on the top board and is easy to get to. Keep in mind that if it's not you will have to pull yout board set apart to get to the correct board to install the ram. I mention this because it seems you are assuming that replacing the ram is easier than soldering the battery on. It really comes down to your personal skill set but you can do as much damage pulling your board set apart as you can soldering. Plus if for some reason you actually managed to damage your power board beyond repair and I seriously doubt you will, you can replace that board relatively cheap. If you damage the main board you will likely be out a couple hundred dollars to replace or even get it fixed.
As for MCR, I don't know what it means but ms pac man is definitely not MCR.

and yes

CLIP THAT BATTERY OFF NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

grab some wire cutters, and clip the metal holding the battery at each end. You will be left with 2 piece of metal sticking up. no big deal.
