Guys I'm really trying to get into newer arcade games, but I have no idea how this works. I own a SFII champion edition game. What I am unsure of is can I swap in newer boards into the machine? For example if I bought SFIII could I swap that into my machine? I really need some beginners help please!!@!

What's the standard answer for this one, guys....

Basically, the majority of newer arcade games (after, say, 1987 or so?)have the exact same pinouts, meaning the edge connectors on the pcb and the wiring harness will match up for any board, in any cab. This standard pinout is called JAMMA. All Jamma games are interchangable as long as there are no big control changes(a steering wheel isn't going to suddenly appear and make a racing game work in your SFII cab. Same for games that may use trackballs.) SO, to answer your question, you should be able to swap SFII and SFIII.

That seemed too easy to answer...did I forget anything?

How does the Neo Geo MVS system work? I'm also interested in getting SVC Chaos... I would love to find a detailed guide on this sort of thing. Thanks for the advice...

They need an FAQ section on this board.... BADLY.Almost the exact same questions were asked a few days ago.

Look at the specific pages for the games on this site. With JAMMA you have games that run with medium or standard resolution monitors. You can't interchage these types of games.Vertical and Horizontal orientation of the monitors is also an issue if it won't easily switch in your cabinet.
Power supplies and harness's are pretty much standard across the board.
When it comes to games that need more than three buttons per player(or more than two players),there is an extra harness that attaches to the PCB,for the extra contols(Neo-Geo is slightly differant). These connectors are not always the same for differant games, but can still be wired up.

Look for a PDF of the Manuals, and make sure you get the correct secondary harness for the extra controls, for the particular games.Manuals usually have the pin-outs for any wiring differances between JAMMA games.

Well, if we could make sticky threads, then we could have an FAQ thread at the top to stem a lot of the repeat questions, but I don't know if that's possible with this software...

I know I'd be willing to help out with something like that.At least try to keep the most common or basic questions in an easy to locate spot.

Also,if you're looking for a full blown,walk-thru guide of JAMMA,or specific games,a GOOGLE search will probably turn up quite a bit as well.

PS, don't be fooled by the bootleggers, SNK vs. Capcom still is not out for the Neo Geo MVS, it is its own PCB.

Still JAMMA compatible, though..
