How did your Wife/SO react when you started collecting?

My wife treats my man-cave as an oubliette for all my things she hates. Which is just about everything, including my arcades. hah I don't mind though, I get a mancade, she gets the cat boxes in her home office. ZING!

She threw a shit fit when I brought #'s 3 and 4 home. Was pissed when I told her about #5 (my Gorf) and borderline homicidal when #6 showed up with #5 that I didn't tell her about. So yeah, I'm pretty much grounded.

my fiancee is fine with my games, but they were here before she was, so she knew what she was getting into. i've showed her pics/videos of luna city and other big collections and she digs 'em. she's all for a sizeable basement collection. she's a cool chick.
:)

My first arcade game was pac man, I soon found a ms.pacman cocktail for herself (only game that she allows inside the house) soon later I was bringing more games home and she always said were are you going to fit that? I always make room no matter what even if I don't have the room, well it got to the point where I had too many games and really no room so I get a storage unit to store my games. In the beginning she was upset but now when her family or freinds come over they love playing the games so she started to be cool about it,now I think she's just given up because she has no control over me and the games so that's where I stand and want to be and keep it that way.

Well during round one of the marriage I had two games and she wasn't real fond of them. Then she leaves and as 7 years passed, I filled the house with them. Now we are back together and I basically spend the bulk of my time at her house ..heck, even have a couple projects in her garage. But I get on over to my place on a daily basis.

We are currently looking at another place that has a nice big, somewhat finished, basement; and it's mine ;)

First game or two were no problem. Games 3-5 were the hardest. After about 10... she didn't care any more. She has no interest in the games whatsoever, but we have no other use for the basement anyway. She said a long time ago she doesn't care what I do with the garage or basement, as long as I don't mess up the other areas of the house.

Wow. I'm the first to post that I've successfully avoided the whole wife/SO problem? :D

Past girlfriends couldn't say a whole lot, since they didn't live with me, but I could tell that they thought if it ever got serious - the games would go.

Muahahahaha. Something went, all right.

only get another place if the space you get for your games is bigger than the space you currently have. Actually I like the idea of a space away from home for the games. I might consider keeping the two house model personally.

My gf filled the bathtub in our guest bathroom up with yarn (she's a big knitter). So any time she gets antsy about my games I can just point at the tub.

me and my gf has this talk she wants me too buy her a chair soo she can sit and play.

*she has back and legs problems* I told her she needs too buy the chair!!* I don'nt need it lol! She said be you said you would buy it for me lol!

I had a smb for 2 years before we got hitched, after it sat in the garage untouched with the intentions of "when we have a basement one day I want a gameroom" well the time came and 27 games in the basement later she wishes she never said ok :)

well, when i first met my wife i had a game room with 7 games, so i guess she kinda knew what she was in for. the main thing is the space agreement. i have a dedicated den area and that's where the games ago. any overflow in the garage. we've already both agreed our next house will have a large basement dedicated to be a game room, so i'd she's on board.

Mine is pretty OK with it, as long as I keep the space usage in the newly finished basement/rec-room, away from the home theater and our daughter's play area down there, and we can continue to park both cars in the garage. Fortunately, we've got a 3.5 car garage, which gives me space for projects. Once they're completed though, they're going downstairs.

I have a room downstairs that is my "geek" room, right now it is basically a dedicated computer lab. As my projects get completed, part of that lab will go away and the arcade machines will take up some of that space. Since I'm going virtualized on all my computer lab, that won't be a problem. I'll have one big honking server running a ton of virtual machines, and that's pretty much all I'll need down there. My den on the main floor is my office where my day-to-day work computers are, so I can give up some of the "lab" space easily.

As long as I don't infringe on our daughter's play area downstairs or have anything near the home theater, I'm ok. So, I think I've almost hit my limit on machines. The 2 cocktail machines are allowed in the open part of the basement/rec-room behind the pool table, the standups have to go in the "geek" room.

She's OK with the money spent on them, since I know the budget and how we're doing there. She's also OK with me helping my friend on his restorations, because that's "good and clean male bonding time" (her words) and she knows I'm not out getting into trouble.

Oh, and she wants a couple of the games to be ones she likes... she has *NO* idea that I recently acquired a Burgertime and am restoring it, because it is in my friend's garage right now. She asks me almost daily if I've found one for her though, and I have to smile and say "No dear, but I'm continuing to hunt for one in good shape at a decent price". When completed, it'll be part of her Christmas presents this year... :)

Mine was pretty cool about it, but I finally have reached the limit. I was allowed the Tapper, Sinistar, and Berzerk because I bought her the Megatouch Force EVO. Now she wants a pinball machine and a slot machine to complete the gameroom. I'm OK with it, but if I happen to find a Missile Command Cabaret somewhere near me I just might sneak that one in somewhere.
