How critical is it to use 105° caps?

Recapped some stuff in my monitor and I used 85° caps instead of 105°? Do temps get anywhere near 105° or is 105° just used as extra guard band? Has anybody use 85° with decent reliability?

In most cases the 85's will be fine, but they may not last as long in a environment meant for 105's.

Since nobody has answered you yet, I'll jump in on this.

105 degree caps will keep their tolerance longer since they hold up to heating changes better than the 85 degree caps. The other thing to consider is the ESR which I think is a little higher in the 105 degree caps unless you buy a specific type that has low ESR.

While I don't think either should affect older monitors built in the 80's, if you have a newer monitor or tri-sync, it may be required that you get an exact replacement.

Yeah I thought it was just a reliability thing. I think I'll stick with the 85° caps for now.
