I recently finished my basement remodel and am currently getting all my games down there finally. I put my Galaga in its final spot last night and noticed the bottom of the screen wasn't the same color like the rest of the screen, it is washed out, the blue words turned white and the bugs turned yellow and pink (was fine in the other spots I had it), never had this problem before, If I turn the game sideways or 180 and the screen goes back to normal. What is interfering with it? I thought it might be the games next to it but I moved them and it still did the same thing. It looks like when you put a magnet next the screen. I really want the game in that spot but am going to have to rearrange them so this doesn't happen, my Ms Pac man is right next to it and no issues with it. Any ideas what is causing it and anyway to fix it?

Luckily some smart human invented a degaussing coil.

(Also your monitor coil might not be working; might have other issues too with that particular game)

I've had success using the "poor man's degauss"

Take a CORDED power drill and point it right at the center of the monitor. (obviously, without a drill bit attached) Get the chuck as close to the screen as you can without touching it.

Then pull and release the trigger on the drill as fast as you can. Just pop the trigger once.

This might help you quickly deguass the monitor.

Just come borrow mine brother. While it does work, having the real thing makes a world of difference.

Last holiday season, Frys had them on sale for like 10 bucks.

Most monitors have a degauss coil built in, but there's a thermal trip keeping it from running all the time... If you turn the machine on and off for the next few days it will likely fix itself

Sometimes.. sometimes not. I had one that just refused to auto degauss itself properly even after about 4 days of it being in one spot and turning it on at least once each day. 20 seconds or so with manual degaussing tool and it was fixed.

I admire how virtually every visual condition on a CRT monitor is described as being "washed out"

too bright? washed out. magnetized? washed out. a color is missing? gotta be the yoke! oh wait.

Update, well this was the deal, got my degaussing tool finally today (thank you weather delays), and about 10 seconds with it and everything is good again! Thanks for all your help!
