How can you tell what revision roms a pole position board set is runing?

The title kinda says it all. So how can I determine the roms I have on my board sets?

Would you believe what this online romid says?

I call bunk... It can only tell you what the parent set is.

What exactly were you expecting to find out ? (version?)
It tells you....

Game - Pole Position
Version - Namco
Specific ROM - 136014.105

The only "versions" I know of are either Atari or Namco versions. (heck, you could look at which boardset you have to find that out)
Not like version 1.1, 2.1, 3.1, etc.

Now if you are trying to determine if you have a Pole Position 1 or Pole Position 2, then you may have to try a few different roms. Pole Position 2 was a ROM swap to Pole Position 1 boards...... but NOT ALL the ROMs got changed, only select one depending on whether you had an Atari or Namco boardset.

Thanks for the post...

Their are few different atari versions. I have an atari pp1 boardset.
So like I was saying with that romid it will only report the parent rom meaning namco.

It doesn't matter if you throw the atari versions at that romid it still comes back namco.

Anyway I am trying to figure out what atari version of roms are on my set of boards.

polepos1
or
poleposa

They sure can't be polepos by namco....

I was trying to make sure my boardset is running poleposa so i could test souzilla freeplay hacks some more for pp1.

He had stated in the thread that his hack was for atari version 2 roms. But I could never get an answer from him or anybody else on how to tell which roms the board set is running.

I hope that clears this up a little better....

Kevin suggested WinROMIdent so I down loaded it and the latest database.

136014.105: (1/1) [C918C043]
- 014-105.ROM : Pole Position (Namco, Atari license, ver 2)
- 136014.105 : poleposa:pole Position (Atari version 2):Namco (Atari license):polepos.c
- 136014.105 : polepos1:pole Position (Atari version 1):[Namco] (Atari license):polepos.c

This is my results so am I running version 1 or 2?

If you want to compare the files, just do an md5 on both the ones from your board, and the ones from the decompressed MAME sets, and compare the checksums. There very well may be a ROM chip or two that's the same between the two versions (i.e., they changed some piece of code, but the graphics didn't change, etc).

This is my results so am I running version 1 or 2?

To me that just says it's the same file for both versions.
Will have to try a few to see what comes up consistently as only ONE version.
