How can you tell the difference between a 2-player and 4-player Konami Simpsons?

Jst as the header says, how can you tell the difference between a 2 player and a 4 player Konami Simpsons board?
Any help would be appreciated.

On the board itself? Unless the ROMs are marked for you to see, there is no difference to be seen as there are the same number of ROM chips, using the same size ROM chips.

You just burn new chips for either version. There is no board difference.

What are the chip number differences?
I coined up the board on a 4-player cabinet and only the left coin door functioned with the dip switches to coin up the game.
But when I use the left dip switches and select a 3 or 4 player, the player is active and plays just fine.
My assumptions are that I have a 2-player board?

Simpsons PCB

Here is the board that I have and the labeled roms on the board.
The ones in a row are towards the top left of the board and the single rom is towards the middle right of the board.

If you have a 3rd and 4th player on the screen...you have a 4 player board, period.
If it was a 2 player ROM set, you would only have options for 2 players on screen.

Coin 3 and 4 are on the AUX harness, with the 3 and 4 controls. Should be Pin #1 on each harness.

It's impossible to tell from the stickers on the ROMs, those numbers mean nothing to me.

Ok.
The only thing that bugs me though is that I have the Simpsons PCB and I also have a TMNT.
Using the same harness when I plug in the TMNT all 4 coin dip switches work on the TMNT.
Popping in the Simpsons the coin dip switches only coin up for the left side 1 and 2 but selecting Bart or Lisa (players 3 and 4) the players are able to join.
Not sure why the coin dip switches on the right coin door (players 3 and 4) aren't coining up?

Well I know the hardware is pretty much the same, but these boards are "Unique" per-say.
TMNT is a base hardware for plenty of games, but The Simpsons is based more on the X-Men board base.

They're interchangeable though, and the AUX harness' are identical. Maybe there's a board issue? Have a look and trace back from pin 1 on the AUX connectors.

Ok I will give that a try.
If anyone else has any other reason for the board not coining up on the 3 or 4 player side, please feel free to add to the discussion.

So when you coin up using the player 1 or player 2 coin switches you can then select Lisa or Bart? If so that sounds like the 2 player version. I haven't seen a 4 player version where you can select your character after you coin up. Each set of controls corresponds to a certain character. If you coin up player 1 you play as Marge, player 2 is Homer, player 3 is Bart and player 4 is Lisa. When you play the game you should see either all 4 player life bars at the top of the screen or just 2. If you see all 4 then I would put the board into test mode and use the switch test to see if the player 3 and 4 coin switches are functioning.

Also if you look at the KLOV entry for the game you can see screen shots of the 4 player version with all 4 life bars and the 2 player version. From your description is sounds like you have a 2 player board. I'm 99% certain that it's only a rom difference so if you wanted to change it to a 4 player pcb, you could get someone to burn you the 4 player version of the roms and swap them out. It shouldn't cost much at all to have someone do that.

First off ... quit using the term "dip switches" when referring to the coin door, that is cionfusing. "Dip switches" are a small bank of switches physically on the game pcb itself.

Just say "coin switch".

There are 4 ROM's different between a 2P and a 4P version.
(I think you have the four player set if I recall the numbers correctly)

If you can "choose" a character, then you have a 2 Player set or it is set to 2 Player.
A four player setup correctly gives you no choice of characters.

First thing to check is to check the menu options to see how many players it is set up for. (number of players option) See if it is set to two or four.

Been awhile since I have messed with one, so trying to recall some of this from memory.

Ok.
Sorry for the confusion.
I was surprised that this board didn't have the dip switch settings on the board.
I unfortunately didn't go through the menu screen to verify whether it was set for the 2 or 4 player.

If needed, you can download the manuals for The Simpsons (both 2 and 4 player versions) as PDFs at this site:
