How big is your arcade / game room?

the footprint of my house is 1700 ft^2, and it's got a full walkout basement. I haven't measured out how much space is lost to the electrical closet, stairs, utility room, fireplace, bathroom, etc, but I suspect I'll have >1200 ft^2 left...

Right now there's about 20 games down there, just wandering around aimlessly in the middle of the room, not plugged in...

Time to resurrect this thread with updates!

Yesterday, I was able to measure the space that I've been told I can use as the arcade within the unfinished basement of our new house (closing in May) and it looks to be 13.75ft wide x 23ft long. That only totals 320 sq ft!!? Any estimates on how many typical classic cabinets I should estimate being able to fit? I was hoping to end up with something in the 15-20 machine range, but it sounds like I'm overshooting.

Also, let's hear some more arcade size bragging (or shame)...

As it is right now around 2000 square feet. But also looking to downsize the place and games and move to the northeast soon. I actually envy you guys with the basements and would love to have one some day.

Our new basement is just under 2000 square feet, but I've promised too many other rooms (workout, bath, bedroom, theater, etc) to get as much space as I *want* for my 'geeky hobby'.

Luckily my three boys should get as much enjoyment out of it as I will. Also, the space I'm sequestered to is RIGHT BESIDE what will be my little workshop, so that sort of makes sense for projects and such.

Looks like this is an old thread, so Im wondering if some of the NC guys found homes with basements.

I'm actually moving into my new house this weekend and I also live in NC. We were one of the fortunate ones to actually get a house with a basement. There are very few around where we wanted to live. Found the perfect house though.

Basement is 1300 sq ft. but I'm also going to be using it for a home theatre and put a pool table and things like bubble hockey down there. The space dedicated to arcades can probably fit around 20 and 2 or 3 pins. Which is honestly all I would want anyways. Unfortunate thing is hardly any of it is finished so its going to be years and god knows how much money before its done and how I want it to be

Hey Kasey,

Like you I'm in the planning stages for my basement arcade as well. I also have about 310 square feet to work with, 12 feet wide x 26 feet long. Obviously things like windows and closets and doors will affect your ultimate design, but I calculated out about 18 standard sized cabinets, or for my arrangement, 14 cabinets and 4 pinballs.

Of course, this is just the plans I'd use if I was still a bachelor. In the real world I'm going to have to break up this 310 sq foot idea and make two smaller rooms, so my wife can have her home gym.

Welp, many moons ago I expended in to the larger garage as well... so I am no longer stuck with 10 x 19 but rather 30 x 19 or so...

Yeah, what you see is approximately 19 x 30... the original dimensions were for the small garage side you see at the left.

This is a 3d Sketchup model...

I'm sure SketchUp is going to be my fast friend in the coming years. I believe there's a repository of game cabinet sketchups out there for most of the common games?

I'm also going to have a small area just outside where we're planning to put the theater for a few games, I'll probably keep the pins and Ice Cold Beer there.

Yes... many games are already made... it doesn't take a whole lot of time to come up with a layout using it.

:)

12x11! Beat that! :p

12 1/2 x 8 1/2! I have two uprights, 5 cabarets, one cocktail, with two book shelves squeezed into the corner with classic consoles and a 13" TV.

But Linolium has us both beat.

Hmmm...maybe we need another arcade thread -- "How small is your arcade / game room?" :D

EDIT: Holy necro, Batman -- 2009 thread lives again!!

My arcade is hanging off a cliff. It's visible from the 110 fwy between downtown LA and Pasadena, way at the top of a hill, about 900 ft above the freeway.

I've never posted pics of it here on KLOV, but as I approach completion of the exterior deck, I'll be making them available. It can fit about 20 machines, tightly packed.

Saw the thread about the neighbours, building permits, and the potential take-down of your arcade building. Did you snap some pics, and is it still standing?

I am still laying out my game room project at my new house. I will be in 3 areas in the basement. I should have over 1,000sqft, 30+ games, bar/kitchen, patio, bathroom, and TV area.

Just send me directions when you get it finished!
