I have the opportunity to pick up a cab in decent condition. The owner says the screen looks like this until it gets warmed up and then it looks perfect:

Is it possible to correct itself from looking that bad? If so, what do you all think is wrong with it? I am going to look at it in the AM, but if it's going to be a huge hassle then I will pass.

Thanks!

Could be that the red color wire is loose. I had a cabinet which had the red go in and out. I took a look inside and found out the red color wire was barely attached.

not to bad.

chassis needs a cap kit at the very least.
and a good re-flow.

at least the monitor is working that is a positive thing.

and the tube could use a check as well.

Peace

Thanks! Hopefully the outside is in as good of condition as he described, the pictures he took make it hard to tell. I have been looking for a Neo-Geo setup for a while now and he is only asking $75, hoping I can get him down to $50.

That's cold, man. $75 is a steal and you're haggling over twenty-five bucks? Go give the man his money and get that game working again.

The guy wants it gone today, that's why he is selling it so cheap. It's not about the money for him. I didn't even have the budget to begin with, so the cheaper the better. I got my Lethal Enforcers 2 cabinet under the same circumstances, the guy just needed it gone. He sold the LE2 cab for $100 and it was in pristine condition. It's not a dedicated Neo-Geo cabinet, it's a generic cabinet. If it is Z-back I will probably pass on it, I already have one with SF2. I asked for pictures of the sides, but he never sent them.

this.

I can't believe how cheap some people are on here.

as for it not looking good until it warms up, I'd venture to say there's cold solder on the color drive transistors on the neckboard maybe. really depends on what kind of monitor is in there though. second on the checking the tube. if you don't know anyone with a rejuvenator I'm sure you can take it to a local TV shop.

Being cheap = more games, or parts to fix said games. Not everyone is rich, or really well off. The guy I bought the $100 LE2 cabinet off of lived in a 2 million dollar home, so I wasn't worried about his financial well being when i bought it...lol. Thanks for the advice though. Someone scooped it out from under me this morning for $60 I think the guy said.

All the cabs I buy are for my collection. I am not trying to get them cheap to fix and try to flip for a profit. Or buy an original cabinet to convert to a multi game, etc..

weak red gun int he tube, bad solder joint somewhere, bad solder joint on the header pins for video input, poor connection at the edge connector of the game pcb. etc.

FOr $75, just buy it.

I would have, if he didn't sell it to someone else after making an appointment with me to pick it up...ha ha. The other guy did not pay $75.

You win some, you lose some.
It was kind of funny that it got snagged like that.

Just forget it though. You said it wasn't in your budget anyway.

being cheap does not mean more games. It usually means not getting the games you really want. What means more games, is more space. Buying 20 games does not cost that much money. Its the bigger home or renting storage space thats really going to cost you.

I guess you can say you lost out on a neo geo over $15. Next time you go to starbucks, you can think about that.

I didn't lose it over money. I never said I wouldn't pay him the $75. He made an appointment with me to come pick it up, and then sold it to someone else. If I am going to offer less than asking, I ask them in person. Ultimately when making the deal it is up to the seller how much he is willing to take. I like the holier than thou sentiment in this thread. If the guy needed it gone and was giving it away for free, would you still be moaning about someone being cheap? I am not singling you out, I am just talking about some people in this thread in general. I don't go to Starbucks, nor do I drink coffee...lol.
