since i just enclosed garage for my 15-18 game gameroom and trying to decide how i want to electrically power (turn on/off) easily with the new technology! i am planning on running 2 walls each with 2 seperate breakers that power on/off with 2 wall switches. my understanding is that arcade games are no more than 1.5amps ea in which i was putting in 2 20amp breakers.

are those Xoxide(sp?) remotes working for you guys? how many games are you putting on ea?

any other ideas?

thanks
Kelly

Just a warning...depending on the game it starts up to 3amps. Mostly vectors will hit this range then lower down during run time.

I use the appliance x10 remote to power on 4-5 games at a time. They're all on 15 amp circuits.

Your experience may vary with the higher circuit.

yeah im plan on running vectors on a seperate line! i have one of those coming but didn't know which is better than the other! how many can you control with that x10?

I used an appliance module (3 prong) due to the fact that I will still have a surge protector on it. I limited myself to 5 games per control. I tried 6 with my vectors and it popped the breaker each time, use 5 on it, no issues.

I keep 3 of these x10s on one 15amp circuit.

Works out good for my use!

Then all of the games are able to be turned on with one remote. Think the remote covers 20 of the modules...I'm just using about 8 or nine of them now.

I have a lot of x10 switches and modules in my house, but I've been afraid to use them on the games. All of the lighting in my game room is x10 controlled, but occasionally my x10 stuff gets out of whack and turns itself on or off.
The last thing I want is the games turning on when I'm not home or turning off when someone is playing.
I like the x10 technology, and use it a lot, but it's buggy and I don't trust it for my arcade games.

I haven't experienced that. I do not use it for any type of lighting, only turning on the games.

well that's what i worry about since it's RF and not IR! i also use RF with my Directv receivers and wondered if it would interfere with???

have a new baby with baby monitor and it jacks with RF remotes now!

remotes

I was thinking abut doing this intell the hole amps thing came up. To be safe you could only run 2 Games on Each Remote. THen ended up too be alot of them and alot of controling .

that's why i posted this because i wanna here the best solution for me and get better ideas from you guys! although, everyone has different gameroom applications i understand.

at 1st while wiring garage, i started with 2 20amp breakers to 2 switches but not sure if it's necessary cause i wanna b able to turn on/off several games at a time but then sometimes i just wanna play 1 by myself. is there an easy way without running seperate wires to and every game?

I use Belkin Conserve Power Strips to remotely turn my games on. I have 4 banks of games, with 4 power strips. They have lightning protection and can handle up to 15 amps per strip. The remotes can be set to turn on different power strips via a dip switch.

Amazon has these marked down $20 at the moment.

I saw a stereo rack that is what you are talking about. There was an earlier thread about a month or two ago on it. No remotes though, flip switches for each game. A cool idea...

I am considering going with network based power switches like this one on ebay.

I would probably build a small network connected controller to turn on/off individual games quickly. My iPhone would work until I got ambitious enough to get a nicely built controller.

Edit: Here is the other side from a different site.
