Looks to have the factory shielded speakers. Damage looks permanent to me.
I really havent seen any of these other cabinets with the same problem. How does that happen?

Have you tried to degauss the monitor? If the delfection yoke has slipped backwards on the nech it will look like that too.

no, it wasnt dropped, doesnt look that way anyway. Tried to degauss, didnt seem to do much. The problem spots are directly where speakers reside, but I dont see other machines doing this. I actually pulled a speaker to see if that was the cause but it stayed there.

As for the yoke, I grabbed on to it and tried to slide it, it was in tight. Looks like its butted up to the tube nicely but i can mess with that some and see what happens.

Did you try degaussing it again after removing the speakers? Are you using a handheld degaussing coil, or the built-in circuit? Use a hand-held coil, it's much more powerful.

I have an old school big hoop GE degausser. It seems to work ok but have not tried to degauss with the speakers out. It just seems unreasonable to me that the speakers caused this. When trying to remove them it really had the feel that they were never touched since installed at the factory. I havent seen any other HOTD with this issue, so speakers dont seem to be the cause albeit right where the problem areas are there are speakers right there.

you never know which genius dick molested it previously.

you can always replace speakers. you can't always degauss a tube if it's too far-gone.

pull the speakers and see if the problem persists. I like to think your degauss tool will be good enough to get the job done.

PS: did you try unplugging the degauss coil on the monitor?

ill certainly give both of those things a try this weekend. I would like a pic of someone elses cab, just to see what speakers are in there. These have the metal shield around the magnet so they seem to be correct.

unfortunately I can't contribute to the cause..... my House of the Dead is a 50" deluxe model, lol.

I don't even know what the standard cab looks like.

I gave it hell with this degausser I have and eventually was able to get it down to very little remnants of what was there before.
Had to get a little rough with it. In previous attempts you could just wave the thing around a little bit and bingo. This time around, had to put it right to the tube and leave it there for a bit then pull it back. After a good 5 minutes of that it fixed up.
Thanks bros.
