So I managed to get my hands on a house of the dead cabinet. It worked fairly well when we first moved it in, but the guns were slightly off. We tried to re-calibrate the guns, but after hours and hours of messing with it, they only came out being calibrated much much worse.

Anyone have any suggestions or ideas on how to calibrate it correctly? I'm still new to these machines and lack a lot of the knowledge on how to get them to work.

When we would try to calibrate it by shooting at the corners of the screen, the guns would only register the top left corner, but rarely registered the bottom right corner. Since that didn't work, we went ahead and set them to the defaults, but that also didn't work. Finally, we went in the manual calibration and adjusted the x & y min/max until we thought it would work correctly (a few million times we tried the manual calib.), but it would either not be able to shoot one side of the screen, or the gun sensitivity would be way too high vertically. If you barely moved the gun, it would shoot the bottom of the screen.

I feel like this could be such an easy fix, but I have no idea how to work on it.

Tried manually adjusting it again with no luck.

It's so frustrating too. Everything except the calibration is perfectly fine. The screen has a little burn, but I highly doubt that would cause a problem like this.

Maybe it's the guns themselves?

Have you opened up the guns to make sure that all the parts are properly positioned? No idea if that could be the problem, but maybe worth checking.

I suppose I could try that and see if the sensor boards in the guns are having issues or something.

I really hope it isn't a gun issue. Those things are expensive to replace, it seems.

Anyone know a guy that I might be able to call or talk to about this problem?

If I called Sega, do you think they would help me out? lol

Is this HOD I or HOD II?

HOD I's gun system is a lot simpler than HOD II.

If it is HOD I and both guns are off then my guess is that it is the gun board. Those are pretty easy to find and not that expensive.

It could also be the guns or gun hoses, but usually one or the other goes bad, not both at the same time unless the previous owner had one go bad, never fixed it, and then let the other one go bad. The parts from those guns are not expensive but I would consider replacing the guns/hoses with brand new ones and you have eliminated a lot of future headaches and can enjoy the game. There are a lot of slightly used one for sale on Ebay usually too.

If it is HOD II, the gun system is much more complicated and it could be a number of things. And a lot of money, depending on what it is.

The go to guy for Sega repairs is Ken Westerfield. www.irepairsega.com

Give him a call, he gives free advice. He can repair anything on these games.

Oh, Thank god.

Well, I suppose I'm thankful for getting a HoTD 1 cab, if it is much more simple.

I will definitely give Ken a call sometime today.

Thanks a ton for this! This problem was getting so frustrating.

I opened it up yesterday and was tinkering with the monitor adjustments. It didn't help the guns at all, but the screen looks super sexy now! Got the colors and brightness just right.

Again, Thank you, Jon.
