Hi guys!

So I had the chance to get a House of the Dead 2 Deluxe Cabinet, in reasonably good condition. Sadly, there are several problems which I encountered after moving it home. Any help would be very appreciated!

The machine recognises coin inputs which arent there, when I tun in on its starting at the 9 coin limit. When I push the start button, it goes down to 8 but thinks its getting a coin randomly or at the continue screen. The coin validator isnt working at all, but was working fine before transport. I checked the wiring for loose connections, but cant see anything wrong. I unplugged the coin validator, doesnt make a difference.

Next thing, I cant get the guns to calibrate. When I´m in the calibration menu, both guns dont recognise the top left of the screen, all I´m getting is the "gun off screen" message. Its the same with both guns, I really dont know whats happening here. I checked if all the infrared lights in the bezel are working, looks fine.

Also, theres a weird problem with reloading. I dont need to shoot outside the screen, simply pointing the gun outside the screen will reload.

Hope anyone can help me, sorry for my bad english.

Thanks in advance!

Anyone?

I checked the VTS board (the one with the volume control and service switches) and I´m thinking the problem is there. The coin validator still isnt working, coin ist falling right through.

I´ve noticed something very weird, I took out the lightbulb of the player 2 start button, then I realized that the machine stopped getting credits which arent even there. As soon as i put in the bulb again, it started "screaming" (credit input sound). Anyone a clue?

Thanks in advance

I´ve gone ahead and took a photo of the pcb I´m talking about. It´s this one:

When I ´m measuring the voltage thats coming to the board, its only 3V, the voltage if the coin validator lamp socket is only 3V aswell, the lamp doesnt even light up. Does this sound right or could there be the problem? The lamps of the start buttons are getting between 5 to 6 Volts and are working.

I really dont know what to do, please help. Thanks

I had a very similar issue with my HOTD2, it turns out it was a bad wiring harness going to the gun sensor. I ordered a complete harnesses, swapped it out, and that did the trick.

I would start by disassembling each gun, and using a multimeter to do a continuity test to both ends of the harness - the other end of the harness going to the gun I/O board in the pedestal - under the "how to play" plastic. (the wires are all different colors).

Hi, thanks for the reply!

I did the testing and all the connections are fine. The player 2 gun is much worse than the player one, after a little try and error with different distance from the screen I could calibrate the player 1 gun nearly fine. What I´m still struggling with is the problem that the game reloads by simply pointing the guns outside the screen, not shooting... Do you have any solutions that might work?

And the much bigger problem ist the still not working coin mech. The coin falls right through every time, and the lightbulb isnt working. I did some testing, without the bulb inserted the voltage of the socket is about 3V, with the lightbulb its 0V. What are my options?

I also took a photo of the I/O PCB, maybe it could help:

Is this looking alright?

And still, when putting the start button lamps in the machine thinks its getting coins... What the hell, I´m suffering worse than G did... Please help
