Video of the dreaded zapping: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOLO654ydIU

If anyone with any monitor knowledge could try to assist me on this, I'd be most greatful. I just bought my cabinet, bought an ArcadeVGA card, got everything set up for a MAME build, and the monitor suddenly crapped out.

Here are several photos: http://imgur.com/a/Z7iWw

Sorry for the quality and angles, it's really hard to get a good shot while the monitor is mounted.

Also, can anyone assist me in identifying the monitor? I've tried following guides, but I can't seem to get a good enough look at the board to identify it.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!

That is a K7000 monitor. The flyback has cracked and a high voltage discharge is the noise you are hearing. Bob Roberts, The Arcade Cup, and many other suppliers have the flyback. I suggest you cap the chassis while it is out as well.

looks like a Wells Gardner K7000 with a blown flyback. I have replacement flybacks if you need one.

Awesome!! You've made my day!!

How much? How hard is it to replace? How likely is it that will fix it? Is there a chance that other parts have blown as a result of the zapping?

How much?

Check the sites, but in the $30 range.

It kind of sucks, but it's very doable. You have to desolder the dead flyback and solder in the new one. Flybacks have a lot of pins which have to be aligned exactly. You will need a soldering iron and handheld solder extraction pump (Soldapullt or similar).

It will fix the arcing in your video, but there may be other problems which need attention.

You should read this: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=134818

if you need it fixed i can do it for you.

i stock all the parts for that chassis you will need for a rebuild.

if you want to give it a go great. if not you are welcome to send it in.

Peace

Eh, I'm even afraid of trusting myself to unmount the board. Don't wanna get shocked. I just called a local guy (San Jose, California). What do you think is a fair price to pay for such a job?

Well, you can check out Buffet's pricing to get some idea: http://www.thearcadebuffett.com/

But it's going to be a crapshoot whether you get someone good or not. Buffet is a great guy and will definitely get you sorted out if you go that route.

if you're concerned about getting shocked, then just leave it off for a day. it'll eventually discharge itself.

you might want to start reading up on or watching videos on how to remove a monitor chassis.

buffett is also very good people. :)

if you happen to get it out though, learn how to package it correctly!

i use all quality parts and offer help in the re install process if you need any.

a K7000 will discharge all by it's self in about 5-7 minuets.

it is easy to remove from the frame and tube.

if you want to send it in PM me and i can walk you through the process of taking it off the tube and frame.

Peace
