I liked the movie well enough, but would I like the pinball? Is it a decent DE title? Don't hear much about it. Does anyone here own one? Like it?

I really like it... but then again I like Sega and Gottlieb pins so I don't know what I'm talking about. :)

There is one 30 minutes from me. Dude want $1,000 for it.

Seller states:
This is a Nice Hook Pinball. Needs to be shopped but everything works . Plays good and strong. Cabinet was touched up a little and sealed. Still has a few bumps but Looks real nice. Not a hack job . Playfield is in real nice shape . Needs new locks , Lift channel and maybe new legs if you want it to look even better. The ones on there are not bad. Let me know if there is any interest before it goes on ebay .

I talked with the guy who is selling that one. He said everything works, no errors, needs a light shop out (bulbs, rubbers, cleaning). I would really rather have a JP, but for a G, Hook is pretty tempting.

1G isn't a bad price if the PF is in good shape. Specifically check the ball drops and the skull hole in the center, make sure the rope light works, and the ramp isn't cracked as it's hard to replace. The PFs seem to take a good beating and don't wear too bad.

He said the playfield is nearly perfect on this one, just dusty/dirty.

I tried dealing with the guy before (because he is local). I guess he has a pretty good collection of pins, but when I was interested in one before, he said it needed work and wouldn't go into too much detail. Him having a huge collection and doing repairs on the others made me worried about the one I was going to get. I bet it had a bunch of issues that he knew about. I passed on it.

I really like the music on Hook. I can't say I've ever played one that was 100% shopped...so - no "professional" analysis of the gameplay from me! If you have a spot for it, go for it...if it gets old, sell it... :)

That's what I thought. He's like 5.5 hours away though, so I am not sure if I want it that badly. He is looking for a JP for me, if he finds one, I'd rethink the drive, as long as he prices it reasonably.

I like the game, but the audio call outs get old...fast. "I hate, I hate, I hate Peter Pan" , "Bangerang" and "You can fly, you can fight, you can crow" will be forever burned into your memory. Game play is a left ramp rape fest, but getting really high scores can still be challenging. It is a very tough sell for resale, you definitely do not want to pay over $1,000.

I had one for a week and sold it. Boring to play. And as others have said the audio (like other de games) gets old very quickly.

dud

if you can get an AMAZING deal on one
go for it
but that's the only way i'll own another

once you get the skull shot down, that's all there is

I'm also looking hard core for a JP right now.. all about condition / and price. Same thing with this hook and I can certainly see your temptation at that price point. I think that game is priced right in terms of the "well I don't need / want that game but how can I resist it at that price". I happen to be a big Disney fan. Also despite what some people think about Data East Pins, I happen to love them. They also seem to be going up in price. Phet we have a very similar taste in games... Me personally I'd hold out on it even at that price... If the dude were to dip any lower I can totally see you snatching it... But think do you really want that game? I've bought games based on price alone before and sometimes it's worked out other times I'll end up flipping them because I don't truly care for the title. I'm really trying to focus the most on JP although I have had various other temptations along the way, but do as you wish it's your ultimately your decision.

I have a friend with one that he plans on reselling after a restore, and we have another mutual friend with one that I think he's going to sell to my first friend so he can restore that one. I haven't played it, but I too think DE pins are nice. But I will say that this pin should be awesome in the dark. The amount of flashers under the ramps and around the playfield are staggering. Something like 39 IIRC. And from what I remember about the last time I saw it at his place, it should have a hell of a light show in the dark. That being said, there is one ramp that has some metal pieces mounted in the curves. This ramp breaks out a great deal. So you may want to look for that. Its not the whirlpool ramp. I think its the upper right shorter ramp. My friend plans to repro these ramps as no one (that we know of) is currently reproducing them. A good project when he gets his vacuum former up and running. Not a theme I personally like (hated that movie), but I still hope to play it before he sells it off.
