So, if you were going to add a sit down driver what would it be?

Also your opinion of Crazy Taxi would be excellent, also offroad challenge opinions to please.

I already have Hydro Thunder, and not really interested in old school like Pole Position.

I like Daytona USA and Hard Driv'n, but unfortunately I've outgrown every sit down driver I've ever played, so its a crap shoot for me now. I can only live on memories of the past or of the uncomfort of the present.

My vote goes to the Rush series still after having the games for a couple years.
While good fun as a single unit, Rush The Rock really shines when linked to other Rush the Rock cabs. A while back, I had 4 linked and they where basically in constant use at my parties. Now I have just 2, and are still great fun.
Rush 2049 adds the elements of saving progress, so as to unlock new cars and paint jobs, and having coins to collect on each track. So IMO, it functions as a single unit better than RTR. Of course Rush 2049 can be linked too. :)

I know its not a "driver" like you are thinking but HydroThunder Gets my vote. MUCH more actual game!

Rush the Rock is probably the best all-around newer driver which captures everything into one game that you want from non-realistic, silly racing to real-world physics.

Hydro Thunder is a great racer that adds that little layer of interest with the learning curve to operate the boat. It takes more time to master which is good because you'll be training yourself to be a better skipper while finding secrets.

Crazy Taxi is another great long-term keeper. Exploring the world and trying to kill people will keep you entertained after racing against the clock has gotten old.

Never played the Mario Kart sit down, but a couple of those linked together would be pretty awesome, I'd imagine.

Completely forgot about that - really fun game there but most are probably on route yet and if you could find one for sale it would probably be more than any of us would want to pay at this point.

Oh yea, and as far as Crazy Taxi, I have played that quite a bit, but don't care for it enough to buy it. I have seen pretty good deals at auction for them though.

Off Road Challenge is ok, IMO, but considering that the price for one is about the same as Rush 2049, the latter is the better buy.

I guess it depends what you are lookiing for. The Rush series has more "realistic" physics than the two titles you suggested. I like the driving experience more so than the "game" experience.

I always wanted to find a group of friends and a designated driver to take us to an arcade pissed out of our mind and play one of the big linked up Daytonas.

I would second Hyrdo Thunder. Fun game and challenging. Probably Cruisin Exotica would be my next choice.

I'd also go with the Daytona's. The more machines you can get a hold of, the better the game becomes. Crazy Taxi would be next on the list.

As far as old ones that are nostalgic for me it would be Stun Runner or cockpit Road Blasters. For more recent games, my favorite by far is Outrun Coast to Coast

If you only have one Hydro Thunder, your best bet would probably be adding another. Racing against another person adds a lot to an already great game.

Mario Kart is still pretty expensive, although someone on here had two for sale recently that were missing the boards. The boards are probalby not easy to find and are expensive.

Daytona USA - cool game but the graphics look dated. Yeah I know this is a matter of opinion. This game is undoubtedly the highest grossing racing game of all time. I have seen twin units for $300.

2049s are pretty cool and they seem to be priced around $500 these days for a single unit, at least from the auctions I have been to and the others I have seen for sale. A pair for a grand or less is a good deal.

I don't know what your budget is but some of the newer drivers have been coming down in price, like the original Fast and Furious and even Toyko Drift. I think I've seen a couple of working Fast and Furious machines sell for under $1500 at auction.

There are also conversion kits that turn older drivers into newer games. Kits can be expensive though.

I have an Indy 500 single unit. Not a bad game, and high resolution. You can set it for a 20 lap race. Plus it can play Sega Touring Car Championship and Over-Rev if you have the boards. Been seeing these sell for dirt cheap.
