$$$ hometheater + gameroom ? who dared ?

Some advice from a guy that already has what you are starting. Well, not exactly, mine is an arcade/apartment with a TV corner, not a theater. There are 2 bedrooms limiting my space a bit :( , course maybe they become arcde theme rooms someday.

Anyway, 2 items:
1.) Lots of floor support!! Don't forget it's not just 300-600 lbs per game, but players weight too! I had to add a beam and 2 additional posts after the fact and that is no easy task.

2.) The other thing is access! Make sure you have an easy path to get games in (and out) of the arcade. I still don't, but plans are on the drawing board for a deck and winch based elevator platform for me. I hate moving games and when a good deal is found, well inventory changes. ;)

Moving my Daytona 2 sit-down upstairs was the worst for both access and, at 600+ lbs., floor support too!

BTW We want pics as you build and as you finish!

I have on the drawing board as we speak the plan for the new detached three car garage for our house. The plan in a nutshell will consist of, three car garage on the ground level, finished space on the second level, ( mother in law apartment?????,HELL NO!! ARCADE!!!!)
And the below ground basement will be an Art Deco theater complete with concession area and a mini game room. To access the theater you will travel down a spiral stair in the main house to a access tunnel traveling under the yard and driveway.
The bad thing about this project is that I will not have any spare time for KLOV until the Queens yard is put back!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally able to take and upload some pictures of the game room / theater...here they are. Let me know what you think. I'm planning on redoing the room, taking down the train layout for some more room, replacing the rope lights, repainting the sponge painted walls with something less 'wild' (that is painted with flourscent paint so it does look cool when the black lights are on), and rearranging the games a bit. We've had this room up for about 10 years now.

You get style points for having the balls, audacity, and sheer arrogance to have not 1 but TWO Jukeboxes.

LOL

Yeah... right where they say "A two lane regulation bowling alley" all along showing a 4-lane bowling alley...

That must be some construction if you are putting a basement under a garage! I assume there will be a lot of steel work involved!

Also total win with a tunnel! I always wanted to have a tunnel going out of my basement! I have to settle for a Bilco Door.

On the Garage Journal a guy did that. The build-up is here, The Bunker

Warning it's 30 pages long check out the first couple pages, then jump to the last page and work backwards. He spent a lot of money on this, and bought a Ferrari durning the construction. I like the hidden access door to it, through a bookcase.

Wade Lanham has his arcade under his garage. I was very surprised how little steel was actually used for support.

Another floor support thought:
Think about it, if a car weighs in at 2,500 lbs that's only 5 games plus an adult player playing each!!! This is a heavy weight hobby.

... WOW speechless.

A LOT of changes are coming for my setup. The billiards table, which almost NEVER gets used, is coming out to make room for more games. Inbound are the following games:

Outrun 2 Special Stages Twin
Sega F355 twin
Quick and Crash light gun skill shooter
"Big Blue" Capcom Qsound cabinet with another multi-jamma setup featuring Radiant Silvergun complete with custom artwork.
Single player Sega Rally 2 converted from a Daytona 2 with custom art.

Should I line up ALL of my racing games in a row along the same wall (which would add a Daytona twin, Sega Rally and Rush The Rock Twin) to the above games? Or should I spread them out throughout the arcade? I'm looking forward to these upcoming changes.

With regard to the theater, I have added an anamorphic conversion lens to the projector, but i think that i will be replacing it with one of the new JVC 3D capable projectors either in time for the holidays or some time around the first of the year...

Ditto on both of these comments! I'd love an detached garage and think it would be awesome to connect a sub-level of the garage to the house basement via a tunnel.

Well I had a setup.

Screen and couch on one end of the room with a fireplace behind the screen. Games were in a room to the side and on the other end of the room (full room was 16' x 45') Large wet bar in the center section.

Sadly a recent fire took care of almost everything for me. We are rebuilding and I will have picture up soon of the new area. But games will be a long ways off in the future for me :(
