Home Version Pinball machines....why?!

That's crazy.
No idea those even existed.
What details makes them "home edition" is the big question, apatt from not taking coins obviously.

I wasn't aware they existed either, so I've researched a bit. I can't find specs on Stern's website, but Reddit threads seem to indicate they are shorter, smaller playfields with MDF, smaller back box and LCD, and less toys/parts/motors. They do have a coin door with slots, but I assume they can't be fitted with mechs.

Man, sounds like a lot of money for what you describe.
Just a little bit more $$ gets you a real one, no?

Pro versions of most stern pros are headed into the mid 5k range used. Some are probably already there and have been sold at around that price.
It's also been said that home versions can be had from distributors that can't sell them at $3500.
Street value IMO is closer to $2500 (maybe a little more, but i'd only pay $2500) used, which is a really good value.

The odd thing is that the normal stern home pin did not have a real coin door, that costco version seems to.

IMO, right now is a bad time to buy any modern stern, there are more pins out there than buyers.

Actually, that makes it a GOOD time to buy a Stern.

More pins than buyers - Buyers Benefit with price drops. Or they don't sell.

Supply has exceeded demand! (or it's the crappy the economy more likely - who can afford a pinball machine when freaking Cheerio's cost $8 a box.)

I think you need to find out where the bottom is before you drop the cash.
Personally, i have never lost money on a pin and i do not intend to.
The inflated market is never coming back nor is the demand, almost all new pins are HUO in mint condition and the supply is almost unlimited.

I don't disagree with you. The longer the inventory stays up, the lower the price goes.

Patience is a virtue here to get the best or close to best price.

Sorry for the necro bump…. But Costco is now stocking these Stern Home Edition Jurassic Park machines. $4799.99.
Just FYI, the JP Home pin is a completely different game from the coin-op models. It was designed by Jack Danger. It is quite nice (probably the best "home" pinball ever made), but that MSRP seems too high for most. I think at $3K they would be a good deal.

Playfield has been changed to remove even more features from the Pro version and that tiny LCD screen. Basically one step up from them repackaging that Spiderman layout they use as a generic one they can put any IP onto.

I understand the market for em but at the same time don't. Some people want a pinball machine but maybe aren't comfortable maintaining an old one or feel something new will be more reliable. But at the same time for $4K someone could get a WPC machine easily and not have to squint to see their score while getting tons of features. Even if someone wanted a Stern only a used pro would only be like an extra grand sometimes.
