Home-Use Only Donkey Kong?

The way the ad is worded might lead a novice to think it was HUO.
Yea it was purchased from an arcade supplier and was only used by family at home. That would obviously be well after it was out in the wild.
He didn't state it was bought new.

I actually have what I believe to be home use only DK. I don't have any documentation to prove it, if I was smart I would have asked the guy who I got it from if he had any way I could contact the guy he ended up with.

The story goes that it was a line pull for an employee of Nintendo of North America. It was his personal machine which relocated with him from Washington down here to San Francisco. I Think it was Washington because the guy payed some kinda crazy money to get the machine up 4 story old Victorian in the City here, and I was told that he was going back to Washington,"going back" and didn't want to go threw the hassle of getting it back out and relocated to Washington, so that's kinda why I assume it came from there.

The guy I got it from, his family owned and subleased that building here in the city, and the tenant, who I was told was and Nintendo Employee, said that they could do with as they wished if they weren't concerned with him leaving it in the building.

So it was removed and stored in the the grandmothers residence and owner of said building , and it stayed there till she was elderly and needed care. The family went in and started to do the great big clean up, of years of bullshit, that collected from multiple properties the family owned that here grandson would stash there.

That guy was a piece of work!!!! And he had a lot of shit!! I went there to look at the machine, responding to an add, with no pictures, and very little description.

That was a crazy night, going into south city, late, I think it was 11:30 I left east bay to go see it.

Thing is, it was the first machine I ever payed for, second I owned and I was completely uneducated about anything, and wasn't even a klov member.

This is what it looked like when I bought it in 2008

I have never done a single thing to this game except put side art on it, which it never had.. not since I bought it and there was no evidence of side art ever being put on, because usually there is some indication under the carriage bolts in the side. Mine didn't have any under the head so I believe it was never installed from factory. This my help sale the story, again I have no proof at all.

This is it today exactly how I got it, I've done zero absolutely nothing except side art to this game...

It would be cool to find the owner some how and try and get documentation. But it as early for me, and none of that story really even made sense to me at the time.

The story going to see it, and getting is another funny twist! Lol

But if you would like to an example of an untouched DK... I believe this is it.....

Its definitely home use only. I know the seller and you can clearly see the spot where it was kept since 1981.

LOL!

Yeah. I am tempted to send him an email offering him $150 for it, but I can't go retrieve it until my ankle sprain heals.

I bought a house like this. Five 30 yard dumpsters later I could see the floor.

Every single sentence in the description could technically be true. You have to connect your own dots to get to "home use only".

Looks like it might be one of the early Blue TKG3 cabs based on the copyright on the CPO and lack of any copyright on the marquee. There's a good chance it never had sideart.

I can already tell you that Donkey Kong isn't home use only. It has super heavy wear around the coin slots. Look at them. Was probably operated several years.

Could still potentially be HUO. DK had no freeplay setting by default. The owner could have run it on quarters and emptied it when needed. Alot of collectors run their games on quarters/tokens, so it is a possibility. :D

Hgloth, I'm not sure yours is in the database. I'd love to get the info from you so it can be added.

From the scratches, it looks like about 50,000 quarters per side. That is a lot of HUO baby!

Two different meanings of huo!

1st version means carefully cared for one/two owner with minimal wear abuse!
2nd version is "ho use only" which means it's been beat like a rented mule over the years. It requires extensive makeup, dinghy lighting and tricky camera angles to make it look good again! Lol

I know by the time I was dropping a lot of quarters I always used the left slot, since some games had slots to each position. Did people tend to favor the left or right slot during the classic era or did that not crop up until Gauntlet?
