Home arcades that have names

I always wanted to name my space, but never came up with one I liked. Many of those posted here are just prefect. It's something I would love to do, too- come up with a name, design a logo, create a sign, etc. *sad face*

I've always thought about doing this but could never find a name or anything I'd settled on. The best I got is when I got a really good deal on this sign. So my arcade is "ARCADE" lol 🤷‍♂️

Let's see, Old Tyme Toys, O T T, what can we do with those letters? hmmmmmn. How about:

Offensive Tickle Torture arcade
Odd Tallywhacker Tasting room
Old Tips n Testicles parlor

The possibilities are endless.

Those all have that certain "je ne sais quoi" that one looks for in a home arcade, don't they?

I'm always trying to come up with something reflective of the era and the fact that my game room is in our basement. I've played with The Underground and trying for kind of a cyberpunk there, or Sub-Terra or The Bunker, or since the lot is sloped and the arcade room is on the underground side of it.. "Underhill's Arcade" .. maybe I need a round doorway for that one.

Still haven't found the one that really speaks to me.

My wife and I have gone over name ideas for our arcade many times, with hundreds of suggestions. None have ever felt right or haven't already been taken by some of the upstanding folk here (Darn ya'll that got the good names first!)

It would be easier if we had one specific focus in collecting, but we have a lot of interests - vector games, williams titles, horror games, oddballs, crowd pleasers... Just a complete mix of stuff.

We generally just refer to it as 'the arcade' It would be cool to do some custom neon signage if we ever hit on one that we really like. We did have one name we would use if we opened a public barcade... But it didn't feel right for our home environment.

The Little Shop of Quarters got it's name shortly after I converted a basement workshop area into my home arcade.

Here's the latest walk-through, from late 2022. I doubt the arcade will be this full ever again. Life got in the way.

Half my collection at the moment is on loan to a new arcade that has opened up in my little home town. So it's pretty empty at the moment :)

The door to the right when you walk in, did you keep that storage/workshop area?

I'm still solidifying mine...

space/scifi theme like most arcades of the era, and an admittedly lame pun about this hobby: Space Drain (or The Space Drain Arcade)

No signage yet but i'm prepping for an arcade party near halloween (and open to passersby on halloween night), so maybe ill do a sign by then

I'm still solidifying mine (yes 13 years later, 24 years collecting) and my current front runner: Captain's Quarters
still a cheasy space/scifi & arcade pun

Yes I did - that's my furnace room and (smaller) workshop area.
Nice. I forget what many guys' game rooms look like on here, ya know? Like there are a lot of posts when remodels happen and it's fresh and new but after that I kinda forget a lot of them from a while back. It's nice to see them again.

Here's a few more to remind you of the good ol' days.

John's "Lost Highway" arcade - gorfchampion here on KLOV:

And Shawn's (phetishboy) "Galaxy Blue (V1)", from his annual soiree, this video from 2014:

My Name is Phil and my wife is Janice.
Somehow she claimed the Ms. Pac-man, Monaco GP, and Frogger as hers.
So... that's where the name came from.

The Jack Daniels Barcade

I actually had someone from England email me asking what time the barcade would be open as they were coming to Las Vegas and wanted to visit The Jack Daniels Barcade.

I emailed them back and told them it was just my gameroom but they were still welcome to stop by for a game and a drink.

So they did, and we partied all night. It was great.

(y)

P.S. And you know your shit is legit when you have your own printed arcade logo...
