Home Arcade Etiquette Question.

BYOB and washer with string attached to it.

That's my plan.

Haven't tried it yet tho

Wow. I saw the original post and thought he was asking a legitimate question. It is not something I would do, but that is my personal opinion on how to run a party. I never expected to see all the panties in a wad that this one simple question generated.

Would I throw quarters in if I went to a party and the machines were not on free play? It would depend on the machines. Chances are, I would stand around, talk, drink and eat more than I would if they were on free play.

At my parties, the games, like the food and drinks are on free play.

I still have a couple of games I need to rig up the "player 2 start switch/coin up" mod or rig up a freeplay coin button. But for the most part, I am too busy making sure everybody has food, beverages, ice and a good time to play a lot of games. I usually try to find a few suckers to give a good asswhoopin' to Joust, but that's about it.

I'll be uncharacteristically nice in this venomous thread and suggest that the few quarters for games/beer are not worth it in the long run. Friends will have a lot of fun coming over and playing to their heart's content. And I like hanging and having my machines (4 pins, 2 arcades) enjoyed! Way back when (loft buildout phase) I got a kegerator to handle the beer needs. When I invite friends over, they still bring beer or other drinks, even though I tell them there's no need to. The bottles/cans add to variety from the single tap (currently Blue Moon). OTOH, if people are hungry and want to order food, I usually let them pick up that tab. Although I put out munchies so nobody is that hungry.

Tonight I'm having another gathering here, about 10-15 people, mostly from the local pinball league. Looking forward to a fun eve of drinking and playing! (Last gathering went to about 3am.) It's all about having fun with your friends and games, together.
