Home Arcade Etiquette Question.

I let my friends play for free for several hours, then I say "Hey guys! Did everyone have a great time? Yeah? Awesome! Well, I've got some mulch out back and I bet we can all get my yard mulched in an hour."

If someone tries to leave then I give them a guilt trip and say "Oh, well you didn't have any problem playing my games for free but when it comes to helping your friends I see you're a real asshole!" Then I start waiving around the AK-47 I use for my game pick ups (you've got to be strapped when picking up games these days.) Point being, I want my fucking yard mulched and I will kill a motherfucker!!!!!!

Hey, anyone up for a FREE arcade party at my place???

just my 2 cent.. TO BE MORE ASSHOLE! Force them to do "Security Deposit" before entering your home =D

Does it make me an asshole to not have my games on free-play when people come over? I pay the electricity bill, and had to pay lots of money to buy the machines. But it seems people think you're an asshole for doing that. Thoughts?

Personally I'd feel privileged to have people drive all the way to my house to give my games some play time. That's what they're there for! But if they had to bring quarters or dollar bills for the change machine, that would be a bit awkward really.

I was originally talking about using it as a sort of "donation jar" to get a keg. But I know that most people prolly haven't seen that in the 4 pages of flaming.

Yeah, that happens here quite a bit. I would pass the hat for the keg and do the freeplay. Everyone should be willing to chip in for the beer if they have free games to play too. ;)

Well it doesn't make you the nicest guy on the block, THAT's for sure. If this wasn't a joke, then I have to ask: do you have any friends?

KLOVER!!! If this wasnt a joke. Apparently he came in KLOVER to make some friends???? He would provide free play to Klover because we have arcade with free play!. =D

As for fingerprints on the bezels.. HATE THAT TOO!!!! What I did would be.. POST A RULES

ARCADE RULE:

Fingerprints= Windex & Rag
Respect= Free Play
No Respect= butt kicked!

We could do this as a favor in return after allow family/friends doing the free game play.

Bugs List/Improvement Suggestion posted on the wall. People could write down what they see to be improved!

Sometime we would get strange suggestions that we never though of. We could make our machine into top quality!

What I want to know is... Why all the late entries into this thread flaming him? Did any of you actually read the thread before you posted? After only 3 replies he realized his error. Then, a day or so later, a few stragglers hop in with "You're kidding right? What? Are you serious? You're a douche."

Really? RLY? These are not the droids you're looking for.

You ought to figure out a way, too, to rig up your toilet to take quarters like the ones in truck stops did. Then install a camera in there to make sure nobody climbs under the partition.

ALSO, you may want to think about charging for parking. You paid a lot of money for that fucking driveway! That driveway easily cost more than the games. $1 a pop. No whining.

We have game nights pretty regular in our group of friends/collectors.
No one charges, some even put bowls of quarters out! (Not for take home mind you.)
Electric is minor for an evening of play, even with a dozen or more machines your not talking a couple bucks in power.

I have a pretty nice game room by my standards and I spent a fair amount on it.
I love the "quarter drop" feeling as it is a part of the arcade experience.
Saying this, I keep about 2,000 .900 tokens which are close to quarter size to use.
Games like Pole position and PacMan don't have good free play modes, so tokens work awesome. Besides, the local arcades use the same size... not sure how I know that! :D

My collection is for me, my kids, and friends. It comes alive with a crowd, so that is really the true time that it becomes worthwhile to have. Many times deals have been thrown my way by fellow collectors, payback is far more than quarters in the end.

Best of Luck!!

I am utterly appalled that someone would actually want to charge their friends to play their games. My father from out of state visited me a few months back. He was watching me fix a pin and said, "Ya know this shit costs money. You need to start charging people to play your games." I looked at him and said, "It does cost a lot of money to buy and maintain these but do you really think for one minute anyone would play these things if I were charging? The answer is hell no. I bought them for us to enjoy and to entertain our friends when they visit."

If I walked into someones house and attempted to start a game and realized they weren't on freeplay and there wasn't tokens laying around I wouldn;t be playing any games. I'd also realize just what an asshat that person is and never go back to their house.

Spot on. Spot on.

Personally I don't charge anyone to play my games. The worst thing I'm guilty of is being a little anal about how people treat them, especially kids. I agree with what others have said that few people would really want to play them if there was any kind of cost. I love when I get to show off the games and have people play them.

RLY? Every response of his still seems to be trying to justify the idea. Maybe you ought to read a little closer before you jump to someone's defense. :D

Richard

I'm pretty sure the message has been heard loud and clear, is all I'm saying. He started the thread to ask a question. He found out the answer. Quickly. Unanimously. It just seems like kicking him while he's down, to me.

I just re-read all of his posts. There does still seem to be a glimmer of hope in his mind that someone will chime in with, "No, that's a great idea!" Hmmmm. Although his post 15 and 29 sounded like he had the needed epiphany to me.

Jury's still out, I guess. But I know how some folks hop into a thread late, after the question's been answered over and over, and respond like they are reply #1 or something. :D

Yep, all free play at the CondoCade. If you do decide to visit, though, Sav does charge and expect 'tips' for his lap dances... But it's worth every penny, when he's in his tron outfit, complete with luminescent 'control stick'.

Hey, I tipped but never got a lap dance... :( Did you get 2??

I have lots of family that come over and the kids enjoy the games, as well as the grown up, and i have no idea why i would want to charge. Those things were made to take the abuse. Deliberate attempts at damaging the hardware = instaban from ever playing again, but i love seeing people getting into heated matches of MK.

Arcade cabs are built to take the abuse.
