Home Arcade Book Idea

My thread's been hijacked!! I demand a free copy!

Just kidding -- sounds great and I look forward to what the book has to offer.

Yeah, sorry about that.

Your thread totally got me motivated enough to slap something together. At the very least I just wanted a good, easy reader for my noob gamer buddies to flip through when they come over- but I'm really hoping this will be a good game room addition for KLOVers too.

I think once more guys here see how easy the process was, we'll see alot more local books being made here. I foresee Phet and some of the other guys throwing together some cool restore books now :D.

Actually, we may not have to wait long for the arcade game reality show. We've got a collector in the group that has been in talks with a few channels regarding just a concept.

Sweet. If it happens it'll probably be on g4,which only about 37 people in the United States get.(I don't) What does their programming consist of nowdays? 23 straight hours of Ninja Warrior reruns followed by 30 minutes of X-Play and Attack of the Show? Like I want to watch that.

Oh and what's the number one game? Kangaroo, right? It has to be.I bet there's a 10 page spread on it.

That's awesome Gozer. What is the cost to get something like that produced? What publication did you go through?

The price is a bit higher than I had hoped. Nothing I could do about that. It's the price I pay for self-publishing the book. I went through www.blurb.com. the book is going to run $32.95 if you order it with the matte finish (which I highly recommend). A little less if you get standard paper quality. Figure another $6 for shipping. My goal was to keep it under forty bucks, 'cause, hey- that's my breaking point too. lol

Kangaroo was tied with Sly Spy as the greatest of all time.

so do you actually place an order for a number of books or do they print them one at a time as people put in orders for each book?

Oh, that's great to know the prices, but I meant, how much did it cost you to get it done through blurb? Or do you just submit your files for a fee and they just take a percentage of your sales? I'm not sure how that works.

EDIT: You know what, maybe I should stop being lazy and go to the site and research myself. :D

Take a look around. Real cool stuff there. Prices are listed. The software is all free. Expert designers can also create all their stuff in Adobe then import it in.

Most important thing to remember with the site: THERE IS NO COST TO THE AUTHOR. Awesome stuff.

If you order ten books they give a bulk 10% discount. More books, more discount. However, if a person only wants a single book, that is the beauty of this site. The $32.95 reflects the single book price.

I knew it! And the worst arcade ever was of course a three-way tie between Robotron,Tron, and Donkey Kong because we all know those are all horrible, horrible games that should be burned to ashes.:D

Yeah, I just browsed and downloaded the application. Awesome service.

I told my wife we should think about using it to write childrens books for our daughter. Both of us writing and her doing the art (she's a graphic designer). She said she already told me about the site before. Apparently, she plans to create our annual photo albums through the site. Shows you how much I listen when she shares stuff like that to me. :D

Yup. My first book was going to be a little kid's book for my daughter to learn to read on. Great minds.....

Maybe I need to delay my PAC party by a week or whatever so you can have a book signing in my game room. ;)

CJ was telling me about putting that cab on top of you for the pic. All I can say is you're one crazy dude.

Can't wait to buy a copy. Can't wait to see my pic. Can't wait to see other klov'ers and PAC'ers in there. I'm sure it'll be awesome!

Actually, if you made it the following weekend, I could probably make that one. Although the closer my wife gets to her due date, the less likely I am of being away from her. She's due in just a couple weeks.

It wasn't the weight of the cab that sucked, it was the distribution of that weight to the planks on the bottom that killed me. Glad we didn't try it with a Pole Position. ;)
