Ok so this is my space invaders cocktail that was converted to gallag..

I want to run a new jamma harness so I can get rid of all this crap! (all the SI connectors are still in this!!!)

One problem. There is a new and old power supply. The New one is hooked up right on its way to the gallag connector however the bottom of the power supply (100/120 and whatever the last one is) goes to wires spliced in to the iso transformer.. The OLD power supply is somehow powering the whole game, The powercord is wired to this and works. but no connectors coming off this work..

How can I make it run off the new power supply 100% so I can get rid of the old one and still power the iso transformer.

I want all this mess out of here!

This shows the new power supply and the 2 wires I am talking about which are detailed in the next picture.

This is where those two wires ^ go.. which in turn is spliced to the iso transformer

verry simple
go get a new iso (that one sucks)
take everything out of the machine
order a new jamma harness

wire the power cord coming into the mahine like this
strip the ends of the power cord wire and then cut another legnth of wire that reaches to yor powersuply from the iso twist the ends togather and crimp on some blade connectors
(so that you have the power cord coming to the iso then pig tails going off the iso input to your power suply )its also a good idea to wire a fuse and your on off switch before the iso

then all you do is attach wires from the iso output to your monitor and attach the pigtails from the iso input to your switching power supply

then the rest is just hooking up the jamma harness to the proper points on the switching power supply

this is my crappy attmpt at a digram lol

its also a good idea to put a ground block somewhere on the earth ground wire before the switcher so you can attacha ground strap to all the metal in the machine(monitor frame, coin door, base of iso ,ect)

also most machines have a line filter before your on off switch and fuse holder

Hey thanks man, So basically your saying get a new power cord and splice in the iso transformer, in theory. Which will in turn get rid of that thing on the wall which is what I was looking for. I get it now, thanks!

i reccomend a new iso tho as the current one is old and they can be a pia to figure out what input and output to use
jut get a basic 1:1 iso with only one in and one out

lol here i re read my org post and it confuses me a bit lol
take all the old crap out of the cab old ps what ever
make a new board
screw your new iso, line filter, ground block ,and fuseholder on it

then wire in the new cord ----------------iso output- monitor
should go line filter - fuse on /off switch - iso input - iso input to switcher ps
--------------------earth ground - ground block - earth ground on switcher
------------------------------------ground block - monitor frame ,coin door, iso base, ect.

i am so much more confused now?!

the iso is the thing on the bottom of the cab right?? not the thing on the left wall?? Your talking about ground block, line filter, and fuseholder and I have no idea what any of those are. it sounds like your talking about the thing on the wall?? Sorry im very very new to this

I don't see anything wrong with keeping the isolation transformer he already has.... it doesn't get any simpler than that. BTW, it's the one on the bottom of the cab, not the large one on the side.

well looking at your pics the board on the wall has an iso ,fuse holder and looks like the fuse holder may have a built in line filter

the line filter cleans up the elect signal coming into the machine and helps prevent any interference form outside sources

i dont see a ground block in your machine but it is basicly a a bolt with a nut on it that hooks up to your earth ground so that you can ground all the metal parts in your machine to prevent people getting shocked when touching them (just run a ground strap/wire from each metal part to the ground block)

you do also have an iso inside your machine on the bottom if it only has 4 wires total it should work and you dont need a new one (the iso on the side of your machine is older and they are a freaking nightmare to figure out somtimes)

you need a fuse in line (i.e a fuse holder ) to prevent voltage surges and prevent fires and damage to your machine)

if i were you i would recrate that board on the side of your machine and rewire tha cab if its so hacked up (esp since you want to wire a new jamma harness might as well start from scratch to ensure there is no problems due to the old wireing)

here is another digram
to clarfiy things (sorry i suck ars with paint)

your power cord has 3 wires
green = earth ground
black = common
white = hot

so
you take a peice of ply wood and mount your line filter, fuse holder, ground block ,iso and switcher on it

run your power cord into the machine and connect the 3 wires to the line filter
from the line filter run the white hot wire to the fuse holder and then from the fuse holder to your iso

run the black wire from your line filter to your iso

run the green wire from your line filter to the ground block

this will get power going into your machine and hook up power to the iso

now to get power to your switcher
run a black wire from where the black wire connected to your iso input to one of the ac ins on your switcher

run a white wire from where it is connected to your iso input to the other ac in on your switcher

connect a green wire from the ground block to the earth ground input on your switcher

bam now you have power going to the iso and then also to your switcher(powersupply)
and now your power supply is also connected to feild ground as well

connect a black wire and white wire to the out on the iso and these will go to power your monitor

connect a green wire (or a ground strap ) to all the metal parts in your cab and run them to the ground block (this grounds all your metal and prevents shock if somone touches metal)

I still dont know what a line filter is. :(

Also I just want to keep the iso thats on the bottom of the cab, right now thats hooked to the monitor and power from the new power supply. The whole setup on the left wall is ONLY hooked up to the power plug.. I want to delete that whole thing..

Can I just pick up a new power plug and splice in the wires needed for the iso thats on the bottom of the cab? I know what to me is a LOT simpler since I know where everything would go. Is that possible, then I can delete that whole thing on the wall??

I agree. No reason to buy a new iso. They're not cheap and it's totally unnecessary.

I would just cut out all the hacked wiring and replace it. The diagram from Bob Roberts should be a good guide to how things go together.

like we talked about on chat
take everything out and wire everything from scratch.

also while everything is out you might as well clean the inside and paint it to if necessary and do any fixes to the outside at this time. trust me it is easier this way.
do all cosmetics first
wire power second
jamma harness/connections / monitor connections third
connect pbc forth
turn on game and have fun fifth

Use the diagram that Matt posted here from Bob Roberts

everything on the left is no good.
on the bottom is the isolation transformer, used for the monitor
on the right is your switching power supply, you need that.

Start from the plug first, make sure your has the ground pin still there, if not go get a new one. Home Depot sells them if you need it asap.

in my opinion use new wires and molex/connectors
get a new filter
get a power distribution block

also get proper gauge wire for the job.
i forget what gauge is used for all the connections in the pick from bob roberts. it is diffrent then from the gauge as your jamma harness.

do all this first, dont even worry about anything else till this is done right and checked with a volt meter.

I have a printed out copy of this diagram that I tape to the inside of whatever cab I am re-wiring at the moment. I have 5 total cabs and I've had to re-wire 3 or them due to it being an absolute mess of wires inside the cab. Besides calming any wiring ADD it also provides me with ample amounts of spare wire, molex connectors, and those white things that hold the wire to the cab wall that I can re-use in other projects.

Hey guys, thanks for the bobroberts link, I am going to follow that but have 2 more questions. I have a different iso transformer, In bobs write up his iso transformer is 4 wires, 2 to the monitor and 2 hooked into the power supply. Mine has 4 wires to the power supply and 2 to the monitor. Do I splice the 4 in like the 2 in bobs diagram? Makes sense to me but just checking.

And my other question, I dont know what a power distribution block is? I dont think I have one in my cab nor can I find one for sale. Is it needed??
